3 Former BOE Members Among 7 Filed to Run in Elections

carl fink and seitlerThree former Board Of Education members are among seven who have filed today to run in the upcoming elections. Chesky Seitler, Ada Gonzalez and former Board President Carl Fink have filed today, along with Menachem Friedman, Joshua Weinberger, Tracy Tift, and former candidate Aasim Johnson.

The candidates are seeking to fill three seats on the board. Up for reelection are Yisroel Friedman, and Tracy Tift. The third seat was vacated by Zecharia Greenspan, but is yet to be filled. Whoever fills the seat will only serve until the elections – when Greenspan’s term would have been up.

Seitler provided TLS with the following statement:

The last few months have seen much chaos on the BOE. Although I don’t deny that there were chaotic times when I was there as well, ultimately we always increased services and programs while reducing the tax burden. This could have been done this year as well, but it wasn’t. Instead, we got reduced services in our mosdos, we lost numerous special education programs, we got a record high tax increase, and we had a close call with courtesy busing. All this could have been avoided if the Board would of kept up the working relationship with the Administration. Although I didn’t run last year due to personal constraints, I realize that something needs to be done before we go any further into the abyss. Although I myself cannot solve all the issues, together with the other sitting board members I strongly believe we can restore the relationship so that everyone in Lakewood can benefit once again from our District like we did in the past.‎”

Elections are in November. [TLS]

  1. Our only resolution if for a State takeover of our school system. Not the best solution, but the only one that will help the community right now. These candidates offer the same old, same old.

  2. If the state takes over the BOE you will not like the results. Trust me..there are school districts in the state that do without because of the take overs, there will be no bargaining with them. Whatever they say goes..that is just how they run..very cut and dry..nothing else.

  3. You know I’m reading on other sites of 18 yr old frum soldiers being killed left and right and all I see in Tls is articles about elections! I understand the need for these articles but nothing, zero on what’s going on in israel. I’m not a Zionist but I am a frum Jew living on pine street and I just don’t understand the lack of reporting on this site. Please enlighten me

  4. This is a local Lakewood site. On exceptional circumstances I have seen the scoop cover world events.

The BOE needs all the help it can get! Chesky has had a strong grasp of the Board and ther going ons for many years and has my vote.

  5. Anyone touting that they can increase services wihile keeping taxes down is dreaming or perhaps even worse kicking the can down the road. All you frustarted bloggers must realize services cost money. No we can’t cut pensions or public school funding. We are legally bound to it finished. (I ‘ll leave aside the glous aspect). There is no money left. I would not vote for a guy that wants to spend more money without demonstarting how to pay for it. I know its not fair we pay taxes too and should get equal services. But this is the system and you can’t beat it. Sorry life is not fair. But deal with it. Please do not kcik the can down the road.
