PHOTOS: Communities Come together for ‘CommUnity BBQ’

comm bbq 1PHOTOS: A unique event was held Sunday at K’hal Zichron Yaakov, where four different communities came together for a ‘CommUnity BBQ’.

Members of the Hebrew Culture Club of both the Fairways and the Enclave joined with members of the Elmwood and Hearthstone communities for an afternoon of unity and fun.

The event featured a catered BBQ by Joe Mutterperl of South Side Sandwich Shop, and a special magic show that entertained young and old alike.

“The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and unity,” says one of the organizers. “During the time of the three weeks as well as this trying time for our brethren in Israel, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to get together with our neighbors and express our unity and friendship between all our communities here in Lakewood.”

After hearing the enthusiastic reactions from the attendees, the organizers say they hope to schedule more such events in the future with even more communities joining in.

  1. I would like some answers to my comment………..,
with all the jewish organizations in Lakewood, I am rather puzzelled. When something bad happens in Lakewood, thousands of dolllare are raised…. Do you realized what is happening in Israel and I do not see one organization raising funds for Israel. Without Israel, we as jews do not stand a chance. G-d forbid, that history should repeat itself. Israel is our homeland and we must back Israel. Let’s start raising funds for Israel.

  2. I don’t know what you’re taking about, not raising money for Israel? Jus to mention a few….Ever heard of Adopt-A-Kollel? Chinuch Atzmai? R’ Meir Baal Haness K’ Shomrei Hachomos (dinner last night in Lakewood)? Shuvu? Lev L’Achim? This list goes on. In addition, have you ever had a Meshulach come to your door collecting for a Yeshiva or families in Israel? In our Shul alone, we can have 10 people per day from Israel collecting for various causes.
I’m not complaining, we could certainly do more and more. But how can you say “I do not see one organization raising funds for Israel”? Let’s do more – but don’t be Motei La’az on the Tzibbur that we’re not doing anything.
