PHOTO: Hurricane Sandy Monument Unveiled in Toms River

sandy monumentPHOTO: Visitors to the Shore through Route 37 in Toms River, Ocean County, will now see a new monument built as an everlasting reminder of Hurricane Sandy and the Shore’s resilience to it.

The monument, which was unveiled during a ceremony last week, cost about $500,000 and was donated by the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation.

The monument reads, “To the people of Ocean County in recognition of their indomitable spirit shown during the county’s recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.”

  1. 1/2 million dollars for a small park area, benches, and a plaque. I travel their often and is still washed out in many areas. Maybe I’m a party pooper but $500,000 seems like over kill. Ok I’ll say it point blank, what a total waste of resources and cash.

  2. Wow. Can’t believe it. There are a lot of people out there that are still struggling just to make ends meet. Why couldn’t some of the money spent be put into a “real” use.
