PHOTOS: Missionaries Back in Lakewood and Going Door-to-door

missionaries aug 18 lkwdPHOTOS: Missionaries were back in Lakewood today soliciting Frum homes with their material – which was repeatedly refused by hundreds of other intended targets in the past.

The missionaries, apparently families, were seen walking from door-to-door in several areas around town including New England Village, Central Avenue and more.

Multiple other missionary groups solicited Lakewood residents last Summer, and the Summer prior as well.

  1. stop it stop it stop it

The jewish people are DECENT and HAPPY and don’t want it. I know for a fact. Find some other good Christian folk to go to.

  2. I would think lakewood would have to be a challenge for them. When they ask for volunteers to come here I can’t see so many raising their hands. Maybe we should work on them for klal.

  3. Is this what we used to refer to as “Gypsies” back in the 60s and 70s or are they Mormons….? I Believe we had some gentlemen going door to door here in L.V. they were carrying greenbags???

  4. Why don’t they concentrate on crime infested areas? Can they be stopped? I feel if you have to go door to door to try to convince people to follow what you believe in there is something seriously something wrong!

  5. To annoyed-Many of our past & present rabbanim have had to pound the pavement to convince yids to come back/live a Torah life. Trying to gather up the lost ones. Yes these guys our looking for new members unlike us.

  6. I think their mission is davka to target Jews, I don’t even think they expect any of us to jump at the opportunity to be “saved” by them, but, to them it is a mitzva to try. If they chas vesholom manage to snare someone it is a big victory for them.

  7. To Fred, you are greatly misinformed, these people are not “Gypsies” nor are they related to the American Gypsies that were in our area during the first half-(ish) of the 20th century. Gypsies are typically from Romania and Eastern Europe and they do not send missionaries out to neighborhoods to preach. They are a very close knit people and do not actively recruit outsiders.
They have a lot in common actually with our own community. They are one of the least assimilated ethnic groups in the United States, they have not adopted typical American lifestyles due to their traditional beliefs in social division and maintenance of cultural and religious integrity….sound familiar?

  8. I am a Christian, and when those missionaries come to my door I just say thank you, but decline their offer. They are not bad people, they just want people to have faith in their lives. Their mission is not to convert people that practice Judaism to practice Christianity. They should not go around to neighborhoods where pretty much all of the residents are Jewish, because it is probably a waste of their time. But for the mixed neighborhoods, they want to just try to share their faith with others. And if you just say no thank you in a nice pleasant manner if they knock on your door, they will understand and leave.

  9. What’s the big deal? Why the paranoia? Just do what everyone else does. say, “thank you, but I am not interested. Have a great day.”

They are no different than a door to door salesman. They aren’t going to hypnotize you and convert you.
