UPDATED: Flashing Stop Sign Stolen from 7th Street Intersection

blinking stop signOne of the two flashing stop signs at the intersection of 7th Street and Nowlan Avenue were allegedly stolen, Department of Public Works Supervisor Tony Arrechi tells TLS.

Arrechi says a Township employee witnessed several youths stealing the sign on Saturday, and phoned police.

“By the time they arrived the sign and young men were missing,” Arrechi says.

Arrechi says the recently-installed stop sign costs approximately $1,600.

A flashing stop sign was stolen from another intersection back in June.

UPDATE: The stop sign has been recovered by police, Arrechi tells TLS. It is being reinstalled with cement.

  1. Why are we spending money on flashing stop signs? If people don’t know what a stop sign looks like, they need to go back to drivers education. What a total waste of money. That’s why my taxes went up $500???? Someone needs to review the budgets…

  2. I am so grateful to the Twp for installing these signs. Anything that can help prevent a disaster is welcome. All too often drivers get unfortunately distracted and leave their driving with less than 100% of their attention. The flashing lights in a wonderful idea, and I believe that more and more towns are installing these signs as permanent fixtures. Thanks again.

  3. Your taxes went up because of the influx of non tax paying families’ kids entering public school (as well as an increase in tax paying kids at private schools).

  4. Our taxes will go skyhigh unless we vote NO on tomorrow’s Referendum. And this is without even considering the astronomical electric bills the BOE staff will obligate us to pay if they get our approval to install central air conditioning in every public school building!!

Please make sure to vote NO tomorrow!

  5. fot all you guys paying your home loans through direct deposit LOOK AT YOUR NEW TAX BILL! The numbers are crazy it went up almost half a point and all I hear is people screaming about bussing. $ million is pocket change to what your new tax bill looks like and I don’t hear a whisper from our boys in the township

  6. No wonder!?! The twp aught-ta STOP placing 4 way stop signs in the most ridiculous and insane let alone unnecessary intersections…. enough wasting our time and money!!!

  7. Wjy do stop signs cost 1,600. If someon is too distracrlted to notice a stop sign, tjey shouldn’t be driving.

In the meantime I haven’t noticed one road in town that was paved this summer. All the potholes that plagued the streets last year will be back, with new ones as well.

  8. You must not have driven on the streets before the signs were installed. They have tremendously improved the traffic and safety of those intersections. You also haven’t seen them if you don’t realize they are expensive. Flashing LED lights with solar charge cells aren’t cheap.

  9. How bout some redlight cams in Lakewood or just traffic cams at intersections and maybe some warning mailed to those who break the law it’s serious a hazard driving in Lakewood
