VIDEO & PHOTOS: Following the donation of 10 new advanced assault weapons to the Lakewood Police Department, Philanthropist Dr. Rich Roberts invited Lakewood Police officials to get the first look at some of the newest guns built by the same Israeli company.
Building on the success of their Tavor, Israeli Weapons Industries now created the Micro Tavor, a more compact version of the weapon, which was displayed to the LPD officials yesterday for the first time.
Also shown, was a newly-released machine gun, the ‘Negev’, which has an array of advanced options.
“Police departments are under fire in the Unites States, and many times they could be outgunned,” says Dr. Roberts. “I’m happy as a citizen to help to sponsor enough modern equipment so that our police force can be safe and protect us all.”
Dr. Roberts says he’s looking to donate one of the Micro Tavor guns to the LPD for the primary use during executive functions, and large events under the direction of the SRT (Special Response Team).
LPD officials in attendance were Captain Greg Meyer, Homeland Security liaison Sgt. Rob DiSamone, and LPD’s Rangemaster Sgt. Rob Shimonovich.

Are these guns to be used when they confiscate our guns? Kinda like in Germany many years ago?

How about you don’t make a reason to be on the other side of the barrel. All you people complaining and for what? If he had donated AR-15s would you all be complaining still, further more the people complaining about the weapons are the ones that give grief about shootings in Lakewood. I don’t know about you but if I was on a team going into one if these apartment buildings i would want the best weapon possible so I can go home. That’s all these guys want is to go home every night.

Lakewood is not a high crime area. We are not living with terrorist threats. What’s the point of these guns other than serving as big boys toys?

Whew. Im so happy he gave the LPD these weapons. How many hours have I tossed & turned, worrying if the LPD has enough firepower in the event of a tactical assault ? How many sleepless night have we endured worrying if LPD is adaquately armed for executive security ? I think we can all sleep a little better now, knowing LPD now has the Savor-Gar, the Negev, the Chaifa, the Rimon-Tav, the Rimon-Poretz & the Etzyon-Guver. Thanx, Doc !! Ur the best !!
Lakewood isn’t a high crime area ? There is significant gang- related as well as drug related activity. Police should have the best guns allowed.
