BOE Hires New Transportation Coordinator; Seeks to Fill Position of Transportation Director

boe bus tlsThe Board of Education last night hired a new Transportation Coordinator, Board President Isaac Zlatkin confirms to TLS.

Vernon Henderson, the former Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey police chief, and whose family ran a bus company for many years, is NJDOE certified and experienced with busing coordination, Zlatkin says.

Henderson will serve under the Transportation Director, and be responsible for coordinating busing services, as well as dealing with issues that arise from bus routes, and handle complaints.

Current Transportation Director Gus Kakavas recently resigned from the Director position, but currently remains as a consultant for the district, Zlatkin says.

Resumes for the new Director position can be sent to the Board offices, Zlatkin says.

  1. Gus Kakavas is awesome
why are they chasing him out of office
he is the only one who would ever call abck and give his personel cell phone # whenever there was a problem

  2. I can’t believe that gus resigned that is a tremendous loss to Lakewood he was excellent between listening to parents and coordinating with schools gus was one of a kind

  3. Gus pleaded Lakewood’s position in 1996 long before he was hired.

A district should bus “kindergarten, all bused; first to six, half mile; and seven through twelve, one mile.”

Testimony of Mr. Gus Kakavas, Transportation director of Toms River and Legislative Chairman for the School Transportation Supervisors of New Jersey, in Hearing before Assembly Task Force on Courtesy Busing 71. (Office of Legislative Services, 1996).

Gus always was for the kids.
