This reader-submitted photo shows the remains of a pre-filled oil glass after it suddenly became engulfed in flames.
“There doesn’t seem to be any obvious cause why it melted,” the reader wrote to TLS. “B”H I noticed it in time. Perhaps you should warn people that even those glasses need to be watched and that nothing flammable should be underneath the Menorah.”

Once again some “quality” menorah cups made of plastic instead of glass. So much for the “made in china” merchandise
That’s not glass. Glass doesn’t melt.
Why is he even lighting with any glass or plastic cups in the first place? I always insert the oil/wick directly into the silver menorah itself.. There are opinions in the poskim which hold that a keli is me’akev by ner chanuka and it’s more lechatchilah to light in a keli kesef than a keli zechuchis.
This is aside from the shayla if the glass cups even have a din keli altogether and if one can even fulfill the mitzvah of hadlakas ner chanuka in those cups.. (Agav, cleaning the inside the cups of the menorah is very easy and never an issue) [see sefer Piskei Teshuvos 673:9 quoting Rav Shmuel Wosner Shlita]
This fellow now has another fire hazard reason to avoid the cups and light directly from the menorah.. A lichtigen and lechatchila-dige Chanukah!
Btw glass does melt but not at your typical temperature of lighting a wick. This was forsure a plastic cup not glass. Rabbanim should come out with a ban on these inferioer prefills. Bans seem to work in other mundane areas, so why here.

@TG check R’ Kleinman’s Sefer on hilchos Chanukah. He brings from R’ Shmuel Legabay your issues and says they are lechatchila not a problem
