Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle on Rt 9, Seriously Injured

Rt 9 ped struckPHOTO: A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured this evening in Lakewood, as reported on our News Alerts.

 

The accident occurred around 8 PM at the intersection of Route 9 and North Lake Drive.

The pedestrian, approximately 16, was reportedly crossing Route 9 when he was struck. He suffered a severe head injury after landing on the windshield, officials say.

He was transported by Hatzolah Paramedics to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Lakewood’s Traffic & Safety division is investigating.

    That’s a rotten intersection even for cars. The area can’t handle the volume of traffic, especially at peak times. The time has come to revamp the roads so they can accommodate the traffic.

    Although i’m not sure that this comment is even appropriate hereā€¦I saw the scene tonight as i was driving home. It was traumatic.
    It is time that the parents/schools/rabbanim in this town focus on pedestrian safety. Reflectors, proper protocol when crossing roads. We want to keep our children safe.
