Monday: BOE Running on 90-minute Delayed Opening Schedule

snow school bus tlsDue to the icy rood conditions, all public and non-public schools will be on a 90 minute delayed opening schedule for BOE-provided services.

Which means, all public schools will be opening 90 minutes late, and non-public busing will be delayed as well.

Check with your child’s private school for an exact opening schedule.

  1. Tell that to my daughter’s school. They elected to forgo bussing, and now I have to risk life and limb to get her there on time. Why not just accept the delay, and start on time for those who can make it?

  2. It’s because they didn’t clean off the iced over busses last night. My car was also cover in 1 inch of ice so last night I let it run for 20 minutes and cleaned it off so it was perfectly fine to drive at 5 am this morning without any need to clear it off again .

90 minutes does not help the roads get better it’s all about cleaning the ice off the busses or lack there of.

BTW my daughter does not get bussing because it’s too difficult for them to work out the route. My wife drives her both ways every day and it’s 5.5 miles each way

  3. Sorry, it’s not about the iced up buses. I had to be out early this morning, and the sidewalks were absolutely treacherous. There was just no safe way to get the kids from the house to the cars or buses. While the delayed opening was a huge inconvenience, it was absolutely the right thing to do.

  4. I am out again now, and the 90 minute delay definitely made a huge difference. It is now 34 degrees outside, and everything is starting to melt, including the sheets of ice that covered our sidewalk and steps this morning, despite the fact that we shoveled and salted numerous times yesterday. This delay was a smart thing.

You failed to mention the reimbursement check of$884.00 that you get from the BOE. I guess mentioning that would make your statement less dramatic.

  6. I was out this morning at 5:45 and it was a bit icy not enough to make a ninety minuted delay just be a bit more careful. and to #6 it didn’t make any difference it just was one big inconvenience. I just think that the BOE any excuse they have to delay they do. Were not in a city that gets no snow or basically no snow they are prepared its just laziness.

  7. for the same reason that school started late this morning. Despite the fact that we were out shoveling and salting several times yesterday afternoon, several times yesterday evening, and early this morning, the sidewalks and steps approaching the house were still extremely icy at the regular start time. And yes, we spread a lot of salt. As the temperature warmed up, everything started melting and it became safer. I didn’t want this delay any more than you did-it caused lots of headaches for me, but I can’t take responsibility for putting the kids in an unsafe situation, despite the hassle it causes.
