  1. Funny..I lived in lakewood for 13 years..never heard about lottery. I will be call tomorrow to find out where the posting where or newspapers. I have family that own houses in ocean county and pay high taxes!!! Would really be nice to see some of my family added to the affordable lottery!!

  2. In response to Me;

    Not every one can actually buy a house. Say they are not approved for a mortgage, if we only pick 62 and 5 don’t get a mortgage do you want them to come back next month to 5 more ? And so on?

    The have now a list up to 300 and will go in order.

  3. Lakewood Township is discriminate against single people or couples with no kids this is the third phase that we cannot get in.
    Why you don’t build a small percentage for US

  4. Heres a little understanding how it works. Unlike in the previous years, there was a lotto for both the 3 bedroom and 4 bedroom homes in one pool. There are only 14 of the 3 bedroom units for sale. So anyone that applied for a three bedroom and was in the 62, doesn’t automatically mean you win. In addition, some people wont be able to get a mortgage or may change their mind. So realistically, up to number 100 at least has a very good chance.

    The question is how they were able to limit it to people with kids. I wonder what their legal argument is.

  5. This affordable housing thing has me confused. If there were 1200 people in the lottery, that means that a minimum of 1200 people are looking to buy a house and are tight financially.

    The affordable housing units have deferred real estate taxes, meaning that the expenses that this housing creates, busing, schooling, waste, etc is subsidized by those who do pay real estate taxes.

    These means indirectly, that the “losers” of the lottery, will be covering the bill for the winners. How does this may any sense to tax already strapped residents, so a relative very small number of people can get a free ride.

  6. To justwondering: you are incorrect. These do not have deferred taxes. They do pay real estate taxes (several thousand dollars per year) like everyone else, only that they have somewhat lower taxes because the value/ resale price is restricted and lower than a regular market priced house. So no one is covering the hill for the winners and no one is getting a free ride.

  7. To the truth, several thousand dollars does not reflect the actual costs that the residents of the houses incur. The cost much more then they pay, so other people do end up covering for their expense. just because the reslae is restricted, does not mean that the value is restricted.
