The newest Lakewood Police officers will be hitting the streets solo this week, Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS.
The seven officers graduated the Ocean County Police Academy in January, and were for the last few months riding along with an Field Training Officer.
During the training period, the Chief receives updates on their progress to determine that they’re ready to hit the roads alone when the standard training period – generally around three months – is over.
Despite driving alone, however, officers will generally conduct motor vehicle stops in pairs – especially during the night shifts.
The newest officers brought the number of police officers up to approximately 125, the Chief says.
