Approximately 100 summonses were issue by Lakewood Police since the beginning of the “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” Campaign which began earlier this month, Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS.
The Division of Highway Traffic Safety has awarded $5,000 to 38 police departments – including Lakewood – for the initiative, which puts additional officers on the road per shift dedicated to this campaign.
As of Thursday, Lakewood Police issued 69 cell phone/texting summonses, and 34 summonses for other violations, the Chief told TLS.
The initiative runs through April 21.

It”s about time something is being done. The safety of the oilam is our main concern. Just see how many people are in bed or recuperating from injuries sustained in accidents. Rachmono nitzlan.
LPD shouldn’t need a grant to write tickets. I’m glad this grant is specifically to write cell phone tix but this needs to be enforced every day !
