UPDATED: Police Investigating Robbery at Knifepoint

IMG-20150415-WA0000Police are looking for a man that allegedly robbed a taxi cab driver at knifepoint in Lakewood early this morning.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight when the cab went to pick up a passenger on Medina Road.

“Upon arrival, the driver was approached by tall, thin black male who’s face was covered by a red hooded sweatshirt,” Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says.

“The suspect, who is believed to be in his late teens, demanded money from the driver as he held a small pocket knife. However, when the victim informed him that they did not have any money, he grabbed a plastic shopping bag containing personnel effects belonging to the driver and fled the scene in an unknown direction.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Michael Cavallo at 732-363-0200 ext. 5317.

The suspect, described a black male wearing a hoodie, made off with the victim’s wallet and cell phone, police say.

A K9 unit was called in to assist with the investigation.
