As first reported on our News Alerts, the Oak Street school this morning was evacuated following a bomb threat.
“At approximately 10am this morning we were advised that a bomb threat was made regarding the Oak Street School,” says Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith.
Sources tell TLS there was also a threat to “shoot up the school,” and that claim is currently being investigated.
All students and personnel have been safely evacuated and moved to another location, which has been placed on lockdown.
An active investigation – assited by K9 units – is underway by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and CSI.
Anyone with information regarding this threat is urged to contact the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200.
UPDATE 12:05 PM: The threat has been lifted and the children are being allowed back into the school following a sweep by K9 units. The incident remains under investigation.

I work in Schi down the block. All they did was ask everyone to shut the windows in the classrooms and make sure they are locked
All I can say is WOW !!! It’s truly disheartening what’s happening in this town.
Please don’t comment if you have no idea what you are talking about. I am a teacher at this school and our students were moved very quickly and safely to another building and were placed in lockdown there. We all worked diligently to keep these children safe. My coworkers did an extraordinary job and should be commended. I can assure you that we care about these kids and would never let any harm come to them, and it is crazy for you to suggest otherwise. Our administration and office staff were unbelievably proactive in keeping everyone informed and SAFE. Everything happened extremely fast after the phone call was made. Within seconds we were evacuated, and within minutes we were being escorted to the other building, with amazing police officers already there to protect us.
We absolutely did not keep them in the school and lock the windows. That is a lie and absolutely absurd.
What is wrong with you people? A school was evacuated because children’s lives were threatened today. My niece was in the school & terrified about the whole situation. It is a shame what has happened to this town but, this is going on all over the world. Stop being so ignorant people…
