Christie Administration Extends Filing Deadline for 2014 Senior Freeze Program

unemployment checkGovernor Chris Christie has provided additional time for senior and disabled residents to access property tax relief benefits by extending the filing deadline for applications for the 2014 Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement Program) to October 15, 2015.

The original due date for 2014 Senior Freeze applications was June 1, 2015.

“We are extending the filing deadline for the Senior Freeze Program to ensure that every senior and disabled resident of New Jersey who is eligible for the program has an opportunity to apply” State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff said. “Extending the filing deadline again this year as we have done in the past, provides many of our senior and disabled residents the additional time they need to take advantage of this valuable benefit”.

Last year, over 172,000 senior and disabled New Jersey residents received Senior Freeze checks that averaged almost $1,200 per recipient. The Division of Taxation mailed 2014 Senior Freeze application booklets in February to current participants as well as other residents who may be eligible for the program.

The Division plans to mail reimbursement checks to eligible seniors and disabled residents who file their 2014 applications by the original June 1 deadline in mid-July. Checks for eligible applicants who file 2014 applications after June 1 will be processed and delivered as quickly as possible thereafter.
