TLS Dashcam Video helps O.C. Prosecutor’s Office Track Down Dangerous Driver

dashcamThe following is a release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office: The video captured by a motorist’s dashcam on County Line Road early today and published by The Lakewood Scoop, has led to a Lakewood man being charged with four motor vehicle violations.

We at OCPO saw the video and were amazed at the driver’s blatant disregard for the safety of others and the NJ Motor Vehicle Statutes. The case was assigned to OCPO Sgt. Michael Cecchini, who partnered with Lakewood PD Traffic Division Ptl. David Silberstein. Together they investigated the motor vehicle incident which took place today on E. County Line Road and Apple Street at approximately 7:23 am, which involved a green Ford F-150 pick-up truck that pass a stopped school bus over a double yellow line while the school bus had it’s (Red) lights on and taking on passengers (children). Sgt. Cecchini and Ptl Silberstein quickly identified, tracked and located the offender.

By 4:30 pm today, at Lakewood PD Headquarters, Alfonso D. Rodriguez-Rojas, 36, of Lakewood was issued summons for Reckless Driving, Improper Passing, Passing a Stopped School Bus, and Driving with a Suspended DL. His mandatory court appearance is set for 06/11/15 at 9:30 am at Lakewood Municipal Court.

OCPO thanks those who drive responsibly and pledges the commitment of the entire Ocean County Law Enforcement community to keep our roadways safe.

  1. Thank you OCPO and LPD for taking this seriously and making our streets just a bit more safer. Let this be a lesson to all the naysayers of the previous post. This driver violated the law endangering those around him with suspended license no less. Drive safe people, it’s just not worth the extra few min (if even) at all.

  2. 1258 says: May 28, 2015 at 9:44 am #1 the police wont do anything with a video, i tried it once they told me if i got clear identity of the driver then they can issue a summons and i would be the one to have to press charges in court. if you cant identify the driver just the car, the guy could say he wasnt driving the car,

WANNA RE-THINK YOUR COMMENT OF THIS MORNING NOW????

  3. He already had a suspended DL, what make you think he cares about getting a summons or being told to show up for a court date? You let him walk out of the police station, he probably got back in he vehicle and drove home. By the way did anyone check his residence status?

  4. Finally some good comes from these webcams. Congratulations to the webcam person. And thank you to the prosecuters office and lpd for taking this seriously

  5. Thank you Lakewood Scoop for posting these videos… Are streets will be safer tomorrow because of your post today. Keep em coming pls

  6. #4- there’s no real reason to check his residency status. It’s clear from the video he likes to drive on the left lane, that would tell me he’s either from the U.K. or Australia where they drive on the left side or that he’s from some 3rd world country where driving on either lane is fine.

  7. Now that we know the OCPO is entertaining these dashcam infractions…time to put a dashcam on my vehicle to turn in the dangerous and illegal maneuvers I see on a daily basis…I hope they treat everyone the same across the board. Thanks to TLS for getting the ball rolling.

  8. Thank you Lakewood Scoop for posting this. Your were on CBS news this morning, along with the video and story about this person. They mentioned that the video was seen on your site, which led to his arrest.

  9. I’d venture to say that this guy can get off the hook with a decent lawyer. Under NJ law you can’t be charged for traffic crimes with video evidence alone. LPD can try to get some witnesses to testify in court though.

  10. I must agree that this driver’s actions were egregious but I’m a bit nervous about the police being able to issue a summons based on a dashcam video.
I think almost all drivers have committed minor violations (no full stop at stop sign, 32 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, U turn on a deserted street) I think it’s bit too 1984 to have to worry about receiving a summons for what most people would consider normal driving
Again, not defending THIS guy. He’s dangerous. But worried about how far this can go.
