PHOTOS: A veteran Lakewood Hatzolah member, and his wife, were hospitalized this morning after being involved in a serious accident in Jackson which left one person dead.
The member was traveling in the area of County Line Road shortly after 10 AM when the accident occurred.
The member radioed in that he was involved in a serious accident, and multiple members from Lakewood, as well as Jackson emergency personnel responded to the scene.
The other vehicle overturned, trapping two people inside. The patients are currently being extricated. A medevac was requested for those patients.
Lakewood Hatzolah transported the member and his wife to Jersey Shore Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
UPDATE: Sources tell TLS one of the patients from the other vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The other patient from the vehicle was flown to the hospital in unknown condition.
The Hatzolah member and is wife are both stable, and undergoing testing, sources tell TLS.
UPDATE: The front seat passenger of the RAV4, James McCarthy, 68, of Jackson, was identified as the deceased, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Spokesman Al Della Fave said. The driver, 67-year-old Susan McCarthy, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with serious injuries.
According to witnesses, the driver of the RAV4 ran a red light, Della Fave said.

Please drive carefully at that intersection. It’s a very dangerous one. Don’t try to run the left turn traffic signal — only 2 cars can get through on that signal. I see many trying to rush through it daily on my commute. What’s the hurry — this is what happens when you hurry. Very sad – there were fatalities. Prayers to the families.
Judging from the pics and the fatality, there was some serious impact. That the member & his wife are OK is amazing. Anyone know how the crash occured ? Hope they have a speedy Refuah Shelaima.

to #4- I guess that one car hit the other-that is usually (barring the fact that if its a one car accident) how an accident occurs. Unless you are the police or an adjuster from an insurance company, it shouldn’t really matter to you how it happened. Yes it was a neis that the Hatzolah member and his wife were not killed C”V or severely injured. I attribute that to the fact that for over 30 years he has given his nights and days away to deal with all kinds of calamities in our community. This is all with having a large family and running a business at the same time. May his zechusim continue to have an effect on his and his wifes well being and may they both have a speedy recovery.

James G. McCarthy died at the intersection after a 2014 Toyota Rav4 collided with a 2015 Toyota Highlander at 10:18 a.m., said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. McCarthy was a passenger in the Rav4, he said.
The Rav4 was traveling eastbound on West Commodore Boulevard when witnesses told police it failed to stop at a red light, according to the Prosecutor’s Office. The Highlander, which was traveling northbound on Cedar Swamp Road, entered the intersection at the same time and collided with the passenger side of the Rav4, Della Fave said.
The Rav4’s driver — Susan McCarthy, 67, of Jackson — was seriously injured in the crash, and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Della Fave said. She was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon, he said.
Sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. May everyone have a speedy recovery.

Regarding the question about why no pics of the McCarthy’s car, I happened to have passed the scene this morning, before I heard about it, and saw the Rav4 was covered with a tarp, as you can see in the pics above.
The other car can not be photographed because the first
responders put a screen up due to the fatality. I agree that the other vehicle and its occupants (the McCarthys) should be more than a footnote.
In response to some of the commenters, I feel that it is MORE sensitive, not less, for TLS to omit photos of the Rav4.
When a car has been banged up like the black one, and comes away with miraculously light injuries for the occupants, it is okay to put up a photo, thank Hashem for the miracle, and to inspire other drivers to be careful. The awareness and extra caution is worth the publicity of the accident/vehicle.
However, when a car has flipped over and unfortunately killed one of its occupants, with the other being in serious condition, it is, in my humble opinion, far less sensitive to start snapping and spreading photos of their vehicle and extrication. The most appropriate way for hearts and minds to be with the deceased and injured are by stepping back and not making their calamity into a photo op or lesson/exhibition.
