PHOTOS: Solar-powered Motor Boats come to Lake Carasaljo

solarLake Carasaljo today welcomed five solar-powered motor boats to the water rentals fleet, giving families even more options to enjoy during the summer season.

Being that the Township doesn’t allow gas-powered boats in the Lake, the solar-powered boats would do the job.

The boats are equipped with rear solar panels that charge up the engine, and carry approximately 11 people, says Yonason Ely, the proprietor of the boat rentals.

The fleet now boasts approximately 50 boats, including pontoons, swans, paddle boats, water trikes and more.

  1. what happens if it becomes cloudy and you don’t have solar power while you in the middle of the lake? is there a backup battery or something?

  2. judie i would assume that the owner of the boat rental paid for them as this is a private business, just as a car rental place buys it’s own cars. Not everything is a scam and conspiracy to steal tax payers money.

  3. Judge, while I read this article I was wondering how someone would be able to have a negative comment about it. While your comment was not negative per say, It definitely had a negative connotation. If you read carefully it says the Yonason Ely is the proprietor of the boats. I’m just guessing here but I’m assuming he paid for it. It always bothers me that no matter what gets posted here someone tries to find something negative about it. Just my thoughts.

  4. Judie,

Why would you assume anyone but the proprietor, Mr. Ely paid for these boats. It just says that the township does not allow gas powered boats, so he was innovative and purchased solar powered ones to help boost his business. Additionally, these boats are available for anyone to rent out, this is not a township or community thing. Why the need for constant negativity and veiled antisemitism??

  5. Judie… from what I see all comments are held until a moderator approves them. As such they do not show up right away… but they show up so long as they follow the rules. Yours do appear to show up. As to your question… to my knowledge these are privately owned boats by a local business who rents boats on the lake. They are not allowed by the township to use gasoline powered boats…so this exciting idea has finally allowed them to offer power assisted boats for the residents enjoyment who wish to rent them.

  6. Huh?? There was nothing in Judie’s comments that are anywhere near anti-Semitic! I’m sick of hearing that word being used incorrectly whenever someone has a problem with anothers opinion! There was a question asked. You could have politely answered like Commenter did instead of being nasty.
