Police on Ocean County Mall Threat: Another Mall, Hospital Received Similar Threats

Ocean County MallA hospital and another mall also received threats last night, police say. At approximately 7 pm a call was received by office staff at the Ocean County Mall located at 1201 Hooper Avenue.

The caller stated that there was a bomb inside of the building and that people were going to get hurt. The police department was immediately notified and responded to initiate an investigation. Out of an abundance of caution the mall was evacuated and a Command Post set up in the parking lot. A specially trained explosive sniffing K9 Task Force was activated and a systematic search of the mall took place. The building was deemed safe around midnight.

The investigators are in contact with other towns that may have had similar incidents. Apparently Deptford and Plainsboro had similar occurrences at a mall and a hospital around the same time.

“We would like to thank the mall staff for their professionalism in assisting the police department as well as the individual store owners and employees,” police say.
