The Bachur – Noach Tzvi ben Gittel, critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Lakewood yesterday, is alive because of his helmet, a veteran Hatzolah member said.
“Without a doubt, the helmet saved his life,” the Hatzolah member told TLS. “Without it, we wouldn’t have what to transport for,” the member said.
As seen in the photos, the helmet shattered from the impact and broke into pieces after the Bachur was struck and thrown across the road.
As of late last night, Doctors saw movement with the Bachur, though he remains in critical condition, sources told TLS.
As for the young girl who fell from the window, she remains in extremely critical condition due to severe head injuries, sources said.

Bicycle safety classes should be required before children are allowed to ride their bikes on the street!!
I’m watching kids riding around on these motorized bikes. What’s Hatzala opinion on those? Are they legal on side walks. Tragedy waiting to happen.
Driving around today I was amazed at how many kids/teens were not wearing helmets ! Parents are responsible to make sure their children have proper helmets and they are worn at all times while riding.
Helmets are not for handlebars.
It is crazy but it seems that for some reason helmets have gone out of style. I watch tens of bachurim riding their bikes to Yeshiva down main roads with just their Borsalino on their heads every morning. Maybe it is not so Yeshivishe to wear a helmet? So don’t ride a bike. Don’t risk your life. And here’s something even better. Aside from no helmet, some bachurim are carrying their Teffilin in their hands while riding too. Parents, wake up. Your teenager is obviously not capable enough to comprehend the risks. Step up and do something.
Helmets are crucial, preventing in many cases severe concussions and basilar skull fractures. The fact remains, riding a bike is dangerous and head injuries aren’t the only potential complications. Injuries include; fractured femures, pelvic bone, pneumothorax’s, ruptured spleen, liver injuries and more. Bottom line, parents need to teach their children how and where to ride their bikes and realize that it can potentially be very dangerous.
A car hitting a bicycle is considered a serious MOI, mechanism of injury. Potential for serious trauma.
in Switzerland we had to take a bike road test (like a driver test) before we were allowed to ride a bike on the road. It was done by the school with the local policy and they tested written and actual test on the road!
How about each yeshiva bring in a person to teach safety?

Amazing savings has helmets for $10 and all yeshivas should enforce the rule that no helmet no bike and parents of course should.
