TLS has received numerous reports from motorists seeing an unusual amount of NJ State Police Troopers around Lakewood today.
The Troopers, both in marked and unmarked vehicles, are heavily patrolling Route 9, Route 88, Cedarbridge Avenue and other main roads around town, pulling over dozens of vehicles for cell phone usage, seat belt infractions and more.
There was no announcement from NJSP regarding this alleged ‘blitz’, and in fact, even the Lakewood Police Department wasn’t notified.
Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS he was notified by one of his Sergeants that “they are here, and apparently doing a distractive driving enforcement.”
The Chief says these type of enforcements are generally a one-day event, but reminds drivers to follow the law to avoid running into any issues.
(And regarding that ‘ticket blitz’ ‘WARNING’ that circulates year after year…it’s unfounded.)

NJSP do not have to tell the police in a town they are coming in, however it is a courtesy incase they need help. But Patrolling route 9, 88, 70 are all state roads and Cedarbridge Ave & New Hamsphire are county however NJSP patrol thoseand though it is a professional courtesy they dont have to tell anyone anything of what they are doing.
I guess thats what Governor Christi thinks about Lakewood a place where he knows he can reach his monthly quota on the months last day thats not the kind of President i want, U?

I support the NjSP and thankful for the service they are doing for Lkwd, they need it!
It’s not a monthly quota if you get pulled over there is a local municipal offense and there is state offense if the local municipalities don’t do enough state surg hares then you will see the State Police coming in to get the revenue the town has not given them as into fines

ABOUT TIME. maybe they’ll get the driving in this town back to normal. And yes it is illegal to hold a phone when driving. Regarding ticket quotas a police officer once told me that it has nothing to do with the month they have their own cheshbonos of quotas
Its about time they are cracking down. chazal teach us that if not for the fear of malchus things wouldn’t be so exciting. so instead of living your life on the negative side of the fence look at things positivley and thank god you are protected. and btw it is dangerous to drive while distracted.

I always wonder how the local police feel when they see NJSP appear on the local roads, pulling people over. Not referring so much to State roads like Rt 9, but whenever I see NJSP on Clifton Ave or similar streets, I kind of feel like they’re butting into the local force’s job but maybe the local Lakewood police don’t mind.
I was SO HAPPY that the NJSP was out giving people tickets because people get away with using there cellphones and not stopping at the stop sign.They need to be out here everyday cause too many are getting away with everything,cause local cops need to be doing there job and not wait for the state police to come in handle everything!….
