Askanim Meet to Raise Awareness about Route 9 Meeting in Lakewood

rt 9 central tlsA group of Askanim that are closely involved in the ongoing efforts to get Route 9 widened met this week. The goal was to coordinate efforts to raise awareness about the importance of next week’s public meeting being held by NJTPA.

As earlier reported on TLS, NJTPA is in the midst of a year-long study of the Rt. 9 corridor, which will help determine the future of the troubled road.

While many options are being considered, both short-term as well as long-term, activists are concerned that not enough attention is being given to the best solution of all – widening the road to two lanes in each direction.

“The state seems to be more prepared to take smaller steps, while what we need are real and significant changes,” says one askan. “That is why it is crucial for people to come out in droves to show that we need real change. The status quo is unacceptable.”

The meeting will take place this coming Tuesday in the Lakewood Municipal Building, 231 Third Street, from 5 – 8:30 pm. The open style of the meeting means that people can attend for however long they can.

“Now is the time to get out and let the state know the importance this issue has to us – as a community, and as a voting bloc.”

  1. Assuming thousands of people attend then the meeting will obviously be cancelled due to lack of space or people willnit be allowed inside. What is the plan for that ?

  2. Stop allowing for so much construction and there won’t be any issues, this town is big enough that not everyone has to be on each other’s heads in certain areas

  3. How technically speaking with all new townhouses pooping up up an down rt 9 how the neck are you going to move everything back and add 2 more lanes of traffic?
