UPDATED: Person Dead in Massive Tanker Fire on NJ Turnpike; Traffic Alert

tanker fireNew Jersey State Police say the massive tanker fire on the NJ Turnpike today left one person dead.

The fiery crash happened around 3:30 PM on the Turnpike North near mile post 110 in Kearny, after the tanker collided with a Honda CRV, police said.

Multiple fire departments, as well as foam trucks battled the fire, which sent plumes of smoke into the sky and visible for miles.

Traffic is detoured to 15 E as authorities conduct their investigation.

Police have not said if the deceased person was the driver.
