Lakewood OEM Holds Meeting to Discuss Severe Weather; Police Chief Warns of Possibility of Downed Trees, Power Outages

lakewood oem hq tlsDuring a meeting held today at the Office of Emergency Management headquarters in Lakewood, Police Chief Rob Lawson warned of severe weather over the next few days, despite the fact that Hurricane Joaquin turned away from the East Coast.

As earlier reported on TLS, the area will see significant rain over the weekend and into early next week, according to the National Weather Service, and a Coastal Flood Warning and Wind Advisory are in effect until Saturday.

The Chief warned, that with another two inches of expected rain, the already-saturated ground and strong winds could cause trees to topple, taking down wires and causing power outages.

Winds gusts could reach around 50 MPH, the NWS stated.

Should you need to use a generator, always keep the generator outdoors, and never placeĀ it inside your home.

Also, as reported yesterday, those with garbage pickup on Monday will this week have it on Sunday, and those with pickup on Tuesday will have their trash and recycling picked up on Wednesday.
