PHOTOS: 8th Grade Cheder Boy Wins Trip to Eretz Yisroel for Top Mark in Shmittah Contest; Celebrated Together with Chanukas Aron Kodesh

cheder winnerThe Lakewood Cheder on Sunday celebrated a momentous occasion, celebrating the winner of the Degel Yerushalayim Shmittah contest, and a Chanukas Aron Kodesh by the Zeldes family.

For the past year, Shmittah, seventh and eight grade Cheder students studied the Halachos of Shmittah as part of a worldwide project. Also each week throughout the year, the children were tested on the Halachos, and received a prize according to their marks.

Yechiel Schustal, now in 9th grade, was the winner of the year’s top marks, and yesterday was rewarded the grand prize – a trip to Eretz Yisroel.

Yechiel, a grandson of Reb Shlomo Feivel Schustal and Reb Elya Ber Wachtfogel, will spend a week in Eretz Yisroel, where he will get to meet with Gedolim and receive Brachos from them. He was one of approximately 30 grand prize winners from around the world.

A large Degel Yersushalayim event with about 14,000 people was held in Eretz Yisroel celebrating the completion of the Shmittah contest.

The special event at the Cheder yesterday – which was attended by the Roshei Yeshivah and others – coincided with the Chanukas Aron Kodesh at the school. The Aron Kodesh was donated by the Zeldes family, who are also strong supporters of Degel Yersuhalayim.
