Have Brick police foiled a possible attack? Police say an Indiana man was arrested in Brick after being found with multiple loaded weapons, a gas mask and more. But the man claims he was just going to meet a friend.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. yesterday, Antonio J. Perez, from Indiana, was located by Patrolman Mark Nixon, Patrolman Mark Catalina, and Patrolman Marc Alexander, sleeping in his car at the Boland Field Baseball Complex (2000 Lanes Mill Road, Brick, NJ).
When officers made contact, Perez had in his possession a loaded SigSauer P226 40 caliber handgun, a loaded Smith &Wesson .38 revolver, a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 revolver, and a loaded WASR 10 (AK47 style rifle) with a loaded 30 round magazine. In addition, he was also in possession of a case of 1,000 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, a canister of pepper spray and a gas mask.
“Further investigation by Detective Robert Shepherd revealed that Perez was en route to meet his Facebook “girlfriend” of 2 years, who he had yet to meet in person,” Brick Police said. “Officers were able to locate the female and verify that she was unharmed.”
Perez was charged with stalking, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a rifle, possession of other weapons, possession of destructive devices, possession of certain bullets, possession of large capacity ammo magazine (2 counts), possession of a handgun, disposition of weapons, disposition of an assault firearm, possession of marijuana, and unregistered vehicle.
Bail was set by the Honorable Judge Robert Lepore at $100,000.00 with no ten percent option.
Perez was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.

Here’s some important questions:
Did the guy have all that firepower inside the car or in the trunk? If it was in the trunk, how did the cops discover it? If it was not in the trunk, did he just have all these loaded weapons out in the open, on the seats, console, dashboard or whatever.
If he had them in the trunk, he is still subject to the charges, particularly because you’re not allowed to transport a loaded weapon (without a carry permit). Curious to find out where they were when discovered. If they conducted an illegal search of his trunk to find the weapons, he may get off altogether. Which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on what he was really up to.

1. They didn’t mention whether or not he had a carry permit in the state of Indiana
2. If he did, then it’s a shame he didn’t check reciprocity laws prior to his trip.
3. Last time I checked, under no circumstances are u allowed to possess illegal substances AND firearms (weed is still illegal in Indiana)
4. As a current citizen of Indiana (who grew up in NJ), I understand the carry laws, but I would say this amount of weaponry would be a little extreme even for the regular “informed citizen”.

Most likely he was trying to impress his girlfriend with the large cache of weapons, however, now we can be more thankful to Dr. Roberts for donating guns to the LPD to help limit the damage should such an attack take place.

Since when does possessing guns make one a terrorist? Maybe it’s not popular in NJ, and perhaps there are numerous people in this state that are not sympathetic to gun owners. However, other states are not as fearful of guns, and what this guy ‘did’, with the possible exception of Marijuana possession, would have been completely legal in many states. He might be a nut with this Facebook girl, or maybe not. It’s hard to tell from the sparse details in the article.
