UPDATED – PRANK? Employee of Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz 1 of 3 Powerball Jackpot Winners; Boss Bought Tickets for Thousands of Employees

cashAn employee of Jewish philanthropist Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz was one of the three powerball jackpot winners, Dudi Levi, an administrator for Rechnitz told TLS.

Rechnitz purchased 25,000 powerball tickets for his employees, sources told TLS, though it’s unclear yet if this is one of the tickets he purchased.

The nurse from a California nursing facility was told she won the jackpot last night – and it was confirmed by several other nurses in the facility. But this morning, the family attempted to cover it up, saying it was a joke, sources told TLS.

She will share in the approximately $1,600,000,000 prize with two other winners from Tennessee and Florida.

UPDATE: Reports suggest the children of this nurse may have pranked her, though it’s still unclear at this time. Others say they may be trying to cover up the fact that she won.

Meanwhile, the local media in Los Angeles is gathering around the home of Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz, the boss who purchased thousands of tickets for his employees.

  1. Well unless this nurse is secretly Mr. Jared Price… it was hoax .They have announced the actual winner who bought their ticket in California. He is already extremely wealthy. He says he has no plans for the money… commenting on whether he needed another yacht (apparently he already has one).

  2. Even if it is a prank the fact that it got lots of publicity for what R’ Shlomo Yehuda did is great!
Not only is he so generous, he continues to find new and innovative ways to give.

  3. He’s R’ Shlomo Yehuda. He didn’t need the r’ title. But being that many look up to him specifically in his ways of having positive publicity and kiddush Hashem he deserves it.

  4. The chances of winning the lottery are much less than all the chances of winning at one of the Chinese auctions we keep getting invited to. Isn’t it better to support those causes than to waste money on the lottery?

  5. #13 –
I doubt R’ Shlomo Yehuda’s employees would be interested in winning a new sheitel or tuition at a yeshiva. But besides the point, he supports all those organizations too!
