busing[SEE PETITION HERE] An online petition was started, demanding that the Governor and NJ Department of Education keep their word on the deal they backed out of which would have saved courtesy busing for approximately 10,000 students.

  1. Signed.

Thanks for starting it. Hope it accomplishes something.

It would be nice to have bussing if my daughter ever gets in to school.

It’s hard enough finding a school at all… I don’t want to narrow my choices (if I did have any) to a school over 2.5 miles away.

  2. What do you mean you don’t have a school. Isn’t the vaad trying to help you. It’s February someone has to be able to help you. Call Rabbi Rechnitz I’m sure he has some pull… Good luck!!

  3. The mismanagement started long ago and was still present today. Many people have tried to find ways to help and fix the problems but to no avail. Board members have come and gone, getting frustrated that their votes or information is not being put out there..Sadly the Governor of this state does not care about Lakewood or anyone else. He is more interested in everything outside the state..He will not be a US president and he has lost the confidence of most of this state, if there was any at all. I feel sorry for the children of lakewood both public & private that are suffering for this gross negligence of those we appointed to make it work. Now all they can do is wait and see..and unfortunately, at the end of the month..walk to school

  4. TLS – post the agreement that was allegedly broken. Was it for $22 million, the actual cost after bus companies gouged the district. Cannot believe anyone would agree to a blank check.

  5. Assuming all of 25,000 private school children were registered in PS at a cost a at least $8,000 per student it would cost the state $200,000,000 maybe they can trade that for the luxury of $20,000,000 and cover all bussing.

  6. We can provide courses leading to graduation under Option Two of the administrative code so that kids can correspond with the public school from home. There is no reason why we cannot serve every high school student in Lakewood. They can enroll part time for single courses or full time for a LHS diploma.

The legal opinions I have written on TLS and my website, Llakewoodlaw.org, are my own and not necessary those of the Lakewood BOE.

  8. Please remember if you register your children in the Public School system they will be riding on buses with non Jewish Children, Boys and Girls on the same bus, non Kosher food served for lunch and lastly leave your Torah at home Religion is not taught in Public Schools.

So good luck with that plan.

  9. if 25,000 public school students only eat kosher the school district will be forced to make all foods kosher with each kitchen having a full time certified kashruth supervisor. and then the school district will need to have 2 kitchens .. it will have no choice…..
