Authorities are investigating an attempted assault on two young girls at a Lakewood Shul today, TLS has learned.
Sources tell TLS at approximately 2 PM this afternoon, a man walked into the 14th Street area Shul during a Simcha, and attempted to assault the approximately eight and 10-year-old girls in the basement, possibly exposing himself in the process.
The girls ran off crying to their parents, who immediately phoned police.
“The girls were crying hysterically,” a neighbor told TLS.
The suspect is described a Hispanic male, who fled the scene.
Lakewood’s Detective Bureau and Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene for the investigation.
A similar incident occurred in the area last year.
Police say they’re actively investigating the incident.

This is messed up
I was at the sence today and it’s actually the 2nd time this happened in that shul and sometihing similar happened last week a few blocks away
Be careful because he is dressed as a janitor
i was there today. The man posed as a janitor with a broom in his hand. Please warn your children to be wary of all strangers in shul these days even if they appear to be cleaning staff or waiters. BH nothing happened today but it could have been worse. Please talk to your children. This is the first step to prevention. Teach them to yell if someone tries to take them anywhere and make sure an adult is supervising where ever the kids are playing. Even if you are in the same building an adult should be in the same room or floor as the children
How did they call the police on shabbod
To anon- please leave your ridiculous comments to a different forum. If anyone wouldn’t call police in an attempted abduction situation he should be arrested and have his kids taken away. No greater pikuach nefesh than that.
Exactly! He can go to another area and do it
Numerous Poskim have said it is of utmost importance to call the Police in cases if attempted abductions and the like.
Please parents, supervise our precious children at all times in a shul or at a wedding hall. During a simcha, the kids play out of sight. BechasdeHashem, nothing happened.
Why are a few people here saying “nothing happened”? If he exposed himself to young girls I call that “something”. Granted it could’ve been much worse but let’s not brush this away even one bit.
Numerous poskim? Let’s have the names of two. You are projecting your own opinion. I walked past and saw the police, but nobody would tell me what happened
Terrible story. And traumatic for the kids. There R very few Mexican houses in 14th St area. They should be able to catch the guy. I hope they do !!
The same thing happened to my children exactly a year ago in a basement shul at a simcha. Watch out!
To anon don’t be so critical. The question posed how they called police is an attempt to understand things. Your answer is only partly insightfull. Halacha is perfect and complete and I dont yet understand many things I want to.
If you were there you would also know nothing actually happened and details in story are not 100 percent correct. Children were taken by perp to bathroom but they managed bh to escape with no harm done
Which posek?Why
I live in the neighborhood and I walked past during the drama, yet before I did the terrible aveira of looking at my smartphone, I would have no idea of this story. Why are my children undeserving of protection? And what about all of those who do not have smartphones? Are their children fair game?
lets stop employing the illegals and they won’t come to lakewood!
For those wanting to know which Posek says to call on Shabbos, for starters you can see the following past articles on TLS stating R Forscheimer’s and other Poskim’s Psak:

This happen last year in the Alexander shul on High street with the Hispanic janitor.
No problem of “mesira” here, the guy is Puerto Rican; No need to cover up for him.
