Over 100 Lakewood Volunteers search for Missing Person on Shabbos

imageOver 100 volunteers in Lakewood search for a missing person on Shabbos.

At approximately 10:30 PM last night, Hatzolah was notified that a 62-year old man, who was here from out of town, and had a medical condition, failed to return home after Davening.

Due to his medical condition, a flyer was printed and a search was immediately initiated and joined by LCSW, Chaveirim, Bikur Cholim and others – approximately 125 volunteers in all.

The volunteers searched for hours, until a tip came in from Jackson Police at about 5:00 AM, after an officer noticed a person walking who fit the description.

The person was positively identified as the missing, and brought back home safely.

  1. Please send out a text that he was found, as many people are needlessly worrying. It’s only responsible to update people if you made them nervous

  2. BARUCH HASHEM, And to all the volunteers, of our wonderful town of Lakewood, zohl gebenched zein iyereh hent..and many thanks to the Jackson police.

  3. Chasdei H’! A great yasher koach to the oskay btzorchai tzibbur and the Jackson police department. Can the responsible person who determines when a situation is pikuch nefesh and docah Shabbos kindly ask their Rabbinic advisor if this would apply to the layman who would assist in searching ? If you can then post the psak and the posek’s name it would be a great service if R”L a person goes missing again on Shabbos Kodesh.

  4. Good point. I’m sure that if regular people are needed, they too can do anything necessary to search. The professionals will enlist their services (and I would imagine that they have gone through this shaila). One individual said that he walked over when he heard the helicopter hovering (as they had a helicopter from State Police which has thermal cameras that can check for heat, and could easily check yards and the lake). It was about 3am, and he realized something was wrong. He went out, and saw the posters. He then walked over to the area. There were Hatzola and Chaverim and police ATVs driven by volunteers from the PD – which could go close to the lake. You come realize the seriousness of the situation, when you see how many yidden drove out on Shabbos! May we be zoche to שלא תהא צרה ויגון ואנחה ביום מנוחתינו. But if there is an issue, much credit is due to those who run in middle of the night!
