The town’s annual Memorial Day parade has been cancelled due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms forecasted for Monday.
Mayor Menashe Miller announced Sunday afternoon that the parade, which traditionally starts at the Lakewood town square and runs down Clifton Avenue to the All Wars Memorial Amphitheater at Lake Carasaljo, will not be held because of the anticipated bad weather due to tropical storm Bonnie coming up the coast.
The National Weather Service is predicting 1-2 inches of rain will fall and that heavy rainfall could accompany the thunderstorms. The chance of precipitation for Monday is 90 percent, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The annual ceremony and parade honoring the memory of those who died while serving in the armed forces will be rescheduled at a later date, the Mayor said.

Troops fight and lost their lives in bad weather ( rain , snow cold etc) and we can’t honor them. What a shame
We still are, just on another day. It’s not much of an honor, when hardly anynone is going to show up in the rain to watch soggy and droopy marchers slosh through the pouring rain and running water.
Sad but true..Our troops don’t stop fighting due to inclement weather but apparently most towns are concerned about the Thunderstorm part of the forecast and heavy downpours

Back in the day our soldiers had to subside & eat C-rations so maybe today we should all eat C-rations. Also, our soldiers are in tents in Iraq without a/c so maybe we should all turn off our air conditioning today.
Obviously that’s not how you honor soldiers. The way to honor them is with a parade I nice weather that everyone can come out, enjoy and take part in!
Good Idea..I am a veteran and I do honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice including my father and my best friend…and I do enjoy a good MRE or C-rat..you just never know what you are gonna get sometimes..
