PHOTO: Say goodbye to Slurpee promotions at 7/11 in Lakewood

imageWhen they began offering slurpee promotions, they probably didn’t expect to accommodate that many thousands of children who enjoy the drink.

It’s unknown if any other stores made similar announcements.

  1. They are not going out of there way to exclude us. Seriously, why are you so mean? It cost a ton of money to give away thousands of slurpies and it’s hard to be constantly filling up the machines. I live in a non jewish neighborhood and sometimes they stop giving out the free slurpies, it also becomes a HUGE mess . Maybe clean up after your kids and teach kids to be polite and clean up. To answer Rabeinu. Every July 11 they would give out a free small slurpie.

  2. To unhappy: EXCLUDE US?!! The whole point of promotions is to make money , but if it will cause you a significant loss then it’s not worth it. Should the whole world not have slurpee promotions because b”h lakewood is blessed with a extra large population of those who the promotions are aimed at. No one is too be blamed. The lakewood community can’t be blamed for taking advantage of the promotions , but 711 can’t be blamed for not having these promotions.

  3. Did they anticipate the volume of business the Jewish community would bring them?? They only want to focus on the bad!! It’s not like we killed a gorilla to save a boy!!

  4. How do you make money on Free slurpees..It is a mad house in that place when that promotion goes on. You can not get in to the parking lot for anything. Its a store’s call to participate or not. Unfortunately, it sucks but at least they will not be mobbed on slurpee day.

  5. Some people feel so entitled, it’s appalling. (..and yes, I’m a frum jewish individual who lives in Lakewood with children that love slurpees) A promotion is always a means to drive more business and any forward thinking person understands that when the cost outweigh the benefits the promotion is longer practical. Before jumping on 7/11 for excluding us, have you realized that as of now nobody is getting free slurpees. Jewish and non-Jewish. As for the amount of business we bring them… seriously? Have you considered the hundreds, maybe thousands, in the community that come in for free slurpees and never walk in there the rest of the year? Nobody owes you anything. It’s sad that some are so paranoid that the loss of a free slurpee makes them think they’re being singled out. Every business has a right to decide whether or not to offer or continue a promotion.

  6. Mr. Know it all,
It’s not the point that it’s mobbed. This promotion has been going on for many years, it’s part of their way of thanking the local communities for supporting them. This is an extremely busy store, with that comes some downside. At least they know the neighborhood is safe and we will no kill a gorilla to save a boy. I have gone in there, and I do not at all feel the same friendly service that quick check has. I fell as though they despise us. I almost wonder if they want my business…

  7. The store is supported by the towns people – which in this in this case is Jews.
They are a franchise, and cannot make up thier own rules.

They’ll be hearing from corporate soon enough.

I’m general, that establishment is very stingy.

  8. Aren’t they part of the franchise that’s anti-somatic and I’ve been at that 7-Eleven and every time I go into that 7-Eleven there’s always a problem with the customer service I personally think they should be banned and nobody should shop there and give them business if you’re part of the franchise and there’s a promotion you got a honor it whether you’re making money or losing money even if it inconveniences you I stopped going into that 7-Eleven because of the anti-Semitism I haven’t been there in three months and I encourage all of you to do the same I am very unhappy with the way they treat everybody especially the Jews #BanLakewood 7-Eleven

  9. Most of the people who go for the promotion don’t patronize them at any other time. Why should they provide thousands of free slurpees to people who don’t spend any money in their establishment at other times. Not everything is about discrimination… it’s about their bottom line!

  10. I just got today, Lekovod Memorial Day, a buy 1 get 1 free Slurpee at the 7-11 in Jackson on County Line Rd. near NPGS.
I didn’t know about this promotion, and at the counter the cashier told me about it.

  11. The people who work in that one 7-11 NEVER says “thank you” when you buy there. i have stopped going there like a year ago…

  12. The attitude on a regular day is appalling there. Why do they hide napkins and straws behind the counter, I’ve never seen that anywhere else

  13. anyone complaining is dead wrong! the idea of a free slurpee on 7/11 is to get costumers into the store to BUY merchandise and agav get a free slurpee! not to have hordes of people come in make a gigantic mess, a storm of noise get their free slurpee walk out with barely a thank you!

why dont we just present the same idea to kosher west. every chanukah for years they were nice and kind and had a chanukah offer of free donuts no purchase necessary! the numbers of free donuts given out were astronomical! then it became free donuts one per family member……slowly slowy it got too much to give out for free! this past chanukah they SOLD donuts- at a very good price mind you!
WHY NO MORE FREE DONUTS? because it was simply too much to provide for everyone taking such advantage of this freebie….coming in every day of chanukah and grabbing for whole families…….all those complaining why don’t you try covering the cost of one day one time of free donuts slurpees etc??????
the point is nobody is discriminating our kind……unfortunately our kind tends to forget about chilul Hashem and helps themselves to everything and anything offered to them with a sense of entitlement!

  14. FYI they had BOGO this Memorial Day. So the sign posted is not referring to free slurpees on July 11, they are not willing to even give a free slurpee even when you purchase one. A good portion of the people who would come in would be buying more than one, but to give any away for free, even with purchase, they are not willing to do. So I do think that is bordering on stingy.

  15. Although I have witnesses unpleasant customer service interactions there many times I don’t think it is anti semitism .
I just think they have a general cranky attitude towards all customers. I personally try to avoid the store . It is unbecoming for a national brand.

  16. This isn’t just about free slurpees on 7/11. Every 7 Eleven has a promo called 7 rewards where the 7th drink (coffee, slurpee, big gulp etc) is free. You scan the 7 Eleven app when you buy the first 6 and then the 7th is free. They are no longer participating in this promo! I have bought hundreds of slurpees and getting the 7th one free is something that every other 7Eleven does and they definitely don’t lose from it.

  17. I have stopped going too that store years ago. They make it look like they are doing me a favour to sell to me. I now go too wawa or the frum Stores.

  18. To Mordechai- i actually work nearby and frequent the 711 pretty often. Not only do they honor the app for the 7th slurpee free promotion, they’ve always been friendly and professional with me. I’m a regular guy in my mid 20s wearing a white shirt and dress pants. I think if you act friendly yourself, don’t make a mess, don’t hang out and smoke there for hours etc. (not you in particular) they will treat anyone just fine. They have in my case.

  19. I know for a fact they are NOT referring to the 7 rewards using the 7-11 app where you get the 7th drink free. I was just at the Lakewood 7-11 today and asked the guy behind the counter if they are still participating in the 7 rewards using the app and he said yes. The sign that they posted is regarding the buy one, get one free promo, as well as other promos their site details. Please get your facts right before leaving comments here!

  20. I don’t think I could compare kosher West which is one store in Lakewood to a national franchise like 7-Eleven mind you that the Slurpee cost them a fraction of what kosher west pays for their donuts

  21. They have a terrible attitude towards customers. You feel you have to apologize when up want to buy something. No napkins, no straws no hello no goodbye . If you win a the lottery you feel they give you the money from their own pocket. I used to work next door so I was in and out often. They are antisemitic and really hate Jewish kids.

  22. You have to spend money to make money they could give free coupons for different days and everyone would be happy wake up 7-11 nothing is free that’s why you promote this its all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  23. To clarify, I have used the 7 Rewards with the app for a long time with no problem. Last night they told me that they will no longer scan my app for 7 Rewards. Maybe they misunderstood and thought I was referring to BOGO? They insisted that they won’t scan the barcode for my 1 slurpee.

  24. If we are referring to the franchise on River Avenue that opened in the last few years, I go there all the time. I never had an issue with customer service. If you treat them nicely, they will do the same back. They always say good morning, hi, etc. The reason they don’t put straws out is so that people will remember to pay and so the kids don’t start drinking and spilling all over. I really understand them that they can’t honor this promotion. They have really been very kind to my family. Maybe because we are very kind to them. Sorry you feel otherwise.

  25. The employees there are a miserable bunch who treat customers no better than an inmate in jail. Asking for an extra straw gets you a terse “no” and a glare to go with.(and yes I do say please and thank you.)

The Jackson location have always treated their customers with respect & courtesy. An extra few min of drive time is worth my self respect!

  26. Folks – READ THIS!
THERE = A DIRECTION (go there)
    THEIR = POSSESSIVE (their house)
    THEY’RE = THEY ARE (they’re back)
Spell-check will not help you here. Stop making comments with such basic mistakes which make you sound dumb.

  27. This 7-11 is horrible. Only go their if I need something desperately. I don’t buy Slurpees but have family members that do, and was told that numerous times when they tried to use the app for the 7th free slurpee, they were told it was broken.

Horrible customer service, and all around nasty people.

  28. I happen to pride myself with being especially polite and gracious to retail employees (been there done that) and yet every time i shop at this particular 7/11 i get nothing but rudeness and glares
Mind you the talking on the phone in a foreign language while looking you square in the eye
Overall they are rude obnoxious bad people there and have lost my business months ago
PS i cant stand slurpees so……..

  29. #37 Amazed
this is not a spelling bee or grammer report. Get on its just to post comments. Nobody saves it or remembers it the next day. If you want to teach proper usage become a teacher. Does every little silly thing have to be pointed out as if everything else is perfect. Give up this nonsense. (Words spelled wrong intentional and some unintentional) LOL

AND YES THE OWNER MAKES A BIG DEAL ABOUT EVERYTHING. I SAW A GUY HAVE HIS CAR TOWED FOR PARKING THERE FOR A SHORT TIME AND HE WAS A COP AND THE OWNER DIDNT CARE AND WENT BALISTIC!!!

MR. OWNER YOU HAVE ANOTHER 45 PARKING SPOTS THAT ARE EMPTY. REAL PETTY AND HAS NO BUSINESS MIND!

  30. I’ve been to this 7-11 a few times to buy some snacks (with a nice markup compared to reg stores), and they’re the one of the unfriendliest retail stores I’ve ever been to. The 7-11 on county line and anywhere other location is a pleasant experience every single time.

That being said, there’s a reason why 7-11 corporate keeps running free slurpee promotions year after year, and have even increased the amount of slurpee promotions in the past year or 2. It might have to with the fact that icy fountain soda (AKA Slurpees) has insanely high margins and cost pennies per cup. That buys them happy customers willing to pay higher than normal prices all year long because they like 7-11 corp.

Loyalty is a 2 way street, they don’t have to participate in nationwide promotions unless it’s contractually obligated (which it might be, and wouldn’t surprise me). Though they have lost the loyalty of local customers who see the owners for what they are: money-hungry, unfriendly, and apathetic to servicing the community they are located in.

  31. I used to go to 7-Eleven and when I went I said please and thank you I was friendly to them never were they friendly back to me so stop shopping there and also I witnessed a physical fight that broke out between a customer and employee working there so I made up never to go back there again Because of the anti-Semitism and when the guy behind the counter called the cops for this person who he was fighting with he said a “Jew “stealing from my store and he made sure to say Jew even though he didn’t steal anything he probably just took a extra straw or something #banlakewood7-11

  32. They are rude and obnixous there. They hide the straws and napkins behind the counter. And dont u dare ask them for a specific color straw to make ur kids happy, they get so anooyed….
I love wawa. Better customer service and personally i think better tasting slurpees.
Couldnt care thenleast abt no free slurpees or promitions. Cant crowds and lines. Wld pay double to go a dif day….

  33. This is the greatest topic ever. Gimme, gimme, free, free, free, boycott, boycott, boycott!!!

Feel bad for any retail business operating in this town.

  34. I don’t want free slurpees & I don’t need gimmes or handouts. All I want is to be treated with the same respect I’ve extended to the employees of this store when shopping there. Instead I’ve received the most rude, degrading and unprofessional customer service of any retail store I’ve ever frequented in the entire state of NJ. Hope the new Wawa puts them out of business. An absolutely disgusting place to spend your hard earned dollars.
