Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement in response to the mass shootings in Orlando, Florida:
“This is a horrific event that has claimed the lives of a reported 50 people and left even more victims wounded or injured. As the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, it is a terrible tragedy that touches all Americans. As an apparent act of terror, it is an attack that reminds us that our security is always at risk and how indebted we are to the men and women in law enforcement and national security. If the targets were selected because they are members of the LGBT community, it is a demonstration of the extreme consequences of bias and hatred.
“There is more to learn about the details and motivations of this brutal act of violence. Right now, the victims, their families, loved ones and the people of Orlando should know that our thoughts and our prayers are with them as we absorb the shock of these killings and mourn the loss of life.”

The terrorist was in a mosque in Orlando last month which preached rhetoric to target places (of such a nature) like that in Orlando. The President says guns are the issue.
