Amazon Sellers Compliance issues #6 – by Ed Rosenberg

ed rosenbergAs there are so many in our community that are selling on Amazon.com, I will continue to publish the most pressing issues that arise from our group so that everyone can best be informed.

Amazon sellers policies are extremely rigid and they don’t allow much room for error. One minor mistake can get you shut out of your account and be catastrophic for your business.

There is no account too large for them to suspend and your definition of large and theirs is likely very different anyways.
The goal of these articles is to try our best to avoid compliance issues and best deal with them when we do get into trouble.

1) If you leave a negative feedback for a competitor’s product, you can be cited for a review manipulation violation (it seems) even though you never manipulated reviews on your own products you sell.

2) I have heard from multiple sources that product safety is what Seller Performance is focusing its efforts on these days.
Anything a buyer ingests (consumables) means a safety complaint could result in a listing restricted or a review.

It might not be worth it if there’s more than 1 complaint on the same thing . Also, they view anything with an expiration date
as a potential safety issue so please make sure you don’t violate Amazon expiration date rules.

Here is a great summary on Amazon expiration dates http://tinyurl.com/ExpirASGTG

3) When receiving cartons from China, they often have yellow plastic straps that are quite sharp. When sending those cartons into FBA, not removing them can lead to FBA compliance headaches. Better to remove the straps before you send.

4) Amazon will not accept hand written invoices even if it’s from a very legitimate source. This seems to be prevalent to some that are sourcing from large fashion jewelry wholesalers. If you get an inauthentic claim you will not be able to back it up with a hand written invoice regardless of how legitimate the business is.

5) Some sellers received policy warnings for text in an image even though the image isn’t the main one. This seems unusual though technically it is against TOS and perhaps they are enforcing now.

6) If you are doing MCF (drop shipping from FBA), take note of this message.

Hello from Fulfillment by Amazon.

“Effective September 1, 2016, we will no longer offer the brand-neutral packaging service for your multi-channel fulfillment orders sent from Amazon. Thank you for your interest in this service.”

7) I can confirm that the imperfect order report as well as the POP (perfect order percentage) has been removed by Amazon. They are saying we should use the order quality report instead. Performance – Customer Satisfaction – Reports – Order Quality Report. Request a report does not seem to work so as of now this is not very useful.

Returns concession is next best idea to see if you’re having “trouble brewing” on an item.
http://tinyurl.com/returnsCOncession. Also an ASIN with a high amount of emails with the subject “Inquiry from Amazon customer XXX XXXX Received damaged or defective item” also means product quality issues.

8) Inauthentic claims. If you get an inauthentic claim, even if you get the item reinstated, that does not mean the issue was resolved and it is certainly a strike against your account. You need to try to resolve the reason for the claim. If you do not, you may get more claims and eventually suspended. When you get reinstated, you need to resolve the reason behind the claim. If you cannot, consider removing item even if it gets reinstated.
