A Lakewood EMT could not have been in a better place at a better time today.
Following Davening this morning, the EMT – who also serves as a Hatzolah member out of town – stopped in front of his neighbor’s home and began Shmoozing with him – despite the extreme heat.
As they were Shmoozing, one of his neighbor’s children came running out of his home hysterical, saying a child was choking.
The father ran inside together with the EMT, and found a three-year-old child choking.
He immediately began performing the Heimlich Maneuver, and seconds later a full lollypop – with its stick – came flying out.
TLS spoke with the EMT, who said he doesn’t know why he was there, but now knows.
“I really don’t know why I even stopped to Shmooze in this heat,” he said. “It was just Bashert.”
The child was Baruch Hashem fine afterwards, and didn’t require any further medical assistance.
The EMT adds, “my wife – who would sometimes complain about my courses and classes I go to – told me today it was all worth it.”

Why isn’t he on lkwd Hatzolah, such individuals that are EMTs and pursuing the medical field can be a great asset to the community through Hatzolah, these are obviously individuals that just want to dedicate their minds to the medical field and they have a passion for it not just to have lights and sirens and be a machor….
“With the stick”. That’s takeh amazing, Wow !!
Why not let all “out of town” Hatzala members carry their radios if they already have the equipment?
The courses are difficult and do take our spouses away from family life for a couple of weeks. It’s stories such as this that give us the push to continue encouraging them to pass and succeed. Bh for this amazing miracle!
what a beautiful story. and bh it was a save.
I think every single person out there, especially if you are a parent, should take a course of basic first aid,CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. the course is only a few hours long. to learn how to save someone from life from chocking can be done in under 10 minutes. that’s 10 minutes of your time can save a life. go for it.
Wow! Great story with a happy ending. In the right place at the right time. Good job.
For every hatzalah member is a wife and family who sacrifice their father to take care of the community those wives need to be acknowledged at all times also! I have been many Shabbos meals and gom tov meals where my brother will run out on a call… I give his wife and kids alot of credit
Great story, happy ending.
Well done
