VIDEO & PHOTOS: BITTERSWEET: Police Chief Announces his Retirement; Newly-promoted Officers Receive their Badges

chief retirement[VIDEO & PHOTOS BELOW] It was a bittersweet event last night at Town Hall as the Lakewood Police Chief – who has served the community for approximately 35 years – announced his retirement.

As earlier reported, Chief Lawson has reached his mandatory retirement age of 65. Captain Greg Meyer was named as the new Chief.

Following the announcement, the Chief presented badges to the newly-promoted officers – sergeants, lieutenants and captains.

The Township Committee sincerely thanked the Chief for his tremendous service, and presented his wife with flowers.

The ceremony ended with a celebration at the Strand.

  1. I don’t understand mandatory retirement. If someone is still able to do the job well why can’t he stay on the job until he is good and ready to retire himself. I will definitely miss Chief Lawson but, I am sure his replacement will be good too. Good luck to you Chief Lawson. Thank you for being so good for the community.
