Following issues with Sukkas in Jackson last year, Frum residents this year have begun filing for permits.
As first reported on TLS last year, several Jackson residents were issued summonses for the religious structure when they put up the temporary hut on their property – something done in Jewish communities around the globe.
Those issues were since resolved, and the residents are moving forward.
“We want to make sure everything is done in compliance,” a resident told TLS.
(The Zoning department is located at 95 W. Veterans Hwy.)

Do we really actually need one for a sukkah???
If you ask me SAY NO TO TERRORISM it’s just a way for them to charge and make money from permits or summonses. What happened to religious freedom
Jackson is still in the in the age of the BLUE LAW
It is absolutely a First Amendment right and sukkahs are more than welcome here in Jackson. Since it is a structure it needs to have a permit, simple as that.
What do u file it under, storage space ? Will they Inspect on suspicion of change of use ? That may b a problem. Temp dwelling ? R they gonna require hard wiring, by a licensed professional, ur 2 shop lights hanging from ur s’chach ? It’s nuts. During the winter, do they require a permit for a 8 day igloo ??
On a similar note, does one also need a permit to erect a gazebo, the type sold in Home Depot or Walmart?
WHY ON EARTH DO I NEED A PERMIT TO PUT SOME WOODS OR A TENT UP ON MY PORCH AND EAT THERE FOR 2 WEEKS?!?!?
What about pop-up sukkahs, or snap-together panel ones? How are these different from say kids large play tent? Not all types can be called a structure.
Temporary structures do not need a permit. The inspectors there should learn the law
Just part of living in Jackson. Some towns require some don’t.
Not familiar with a sukka or its laws but I wonder if this will carry over to my Christmas landscape as I do create a tent like structure for scene of the nativity for the month of December
To TLS: don’t know why my comment wasn’t posted. I wasn’t being sarcastic. I really enjoy when my neighbors are building the structures, and I am sure their kids love it. They promptly take them down. I don’t see where the problem is. My son’s best friend never had a problem in the condo they live in in Lakewood.
Maybe the Township of Jackson should require permits for Xmas Lights as well. since you need a permit for temporary wiring.
U need a permit for a temp toilet on your yard , so why are temp sukkas any different, especially when its something you are dwelling in for a week or so
I’m consideting about erecting a tree house for my kids . does that need a permit to?
well thats permanent Jj…so yes.lol
MOVE BACK TO LAKEWOOD NO ISSUES HERE!!!!!!
