The Elul Kollel – An opportunity to relive Elul in Yeshiva

yeshiva[COMMUNICATED] For so many yeshivalite who have left the koslei beis medrash to pursue parnassa, the days leading to the Yamim Noraim are remembered with a touch of wistfulness. The intensity of Elul, the preparing for those all-important days, is an experience that so many wish they can relive. It was with this in mind that the idea for the Elul Kollel was conceived.

The kollel, already in its second year will give those seeking an opportunity to put in extra effort to enhance their avodas Hashem in preparation for the yom hadin an environment to do so together with likeminded people. Under the auspices of the rosh kollel Harav Yonason Blau shlit”a, the kollel will be in session from rosh chodesh Elul until Rosh Hashana, and will learn b’iyun, Inyanim of Rosh Hashana in the 1st perek of meseches Rosh Hashana. Aside from limud b’chavrusa and shuirim, the members will be treated to weekly shmoozim from guest speakers.

“Come Elul, there is a yearning that many have to be able to re-immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a yeshiva, if only for a few extra hours a day,” say Harav Blau. “That is why we decided to implement this program, with the hope that it will help those looking for a way to make the hishtadlus to increase their personal growth leading up to the y’mei hadin.”

R’ Blau has many years experience as a rosh kollel and rosh chabura, and is committed to making sure that the Elul Kollel will be a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all those who attend. “It will be a laybedik atmosphere,” he pledges.

There is already momentum building and aside from those who are excited to return for a second year there is an increasing number of people who are calling to inquire about the program and express their interest.

In addition, last year’s success was so enormous that word has gotten out to other communities and this year, the kollel is being established in both Flatbush and Montreal as well as Lakewood.

Seder will take place every day from 9 am until 11 am, allowing for substantial learning without significantly disrupting one’s daily schedule. For those that wish, there will be breakfast served following a 7:30 shachris. The location is in Khal Bnei Baruch (Rabbi Herzog’s shul), 14 14th Street.
