Assault charges filed against FedEx driver, school bus driver in connection with Lakewood road rage incident

lpd-with-gun-tlsAfter an approximately three-week investigation, the Lakewood Police Department today announced that charges have been filed in a road rage incident involving a school bus driver and FedEx driver.

The charges stem from a road rage incident caught on video showing a FedEx driver allegedly trying to force a school bus off the road when he attempted to pass him.

On September 23rd, 2016 after an investigation led by Det. Peter Aakjer of the Detective Bureau, along with the Traffic Safety department, charged a 48-yearold, of Maple Shade NJ, with Aggravated Assault for his role in the September 14th incident. According to a video of the event, the man, who was operating a FedEx truck at the time, attempted to force a school bus, operated by a 68-year-old Lakewood man, off the road as he illegally tried to pass him.

Although no contact or physical injuries occurred, the FedEx driver’s actions constitutes simple assault, Detective Lieutenant Greg Staffordsmith says. However, because the bus driver was clearly identifiable as being engaged in the performance of his duties as a school bus driver, New Jersey law dictates that the action rises to the level of an Aggravated Assault, Staffordsmith said.

The FedEx driver was charged and released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance. Both men received numerous motor vehicle summonses for their respective parts in the incident, also pending a court appearance.

  2. Complete nonsense, bus driver should have just as serious of charges as well. How about endangering the welfare of children. Even if the bus was empty the behavior shows intent
