Former Israeli President Shimon Peres passes away

peresFormer Israeli President Shimon Peres died this evening, two weeks after suffering a massive stroke. He was 93.

Peres held virtually every senior political office in Israel over a seven-decade career, including three terms as prime minister as well as stints as foreign minister and finance minister.

He was the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. Peres served twice as the Prime Minister of Israel and twice as Interim Prime Minister, and he was a member of 12 cabinets in a political career spanning over 66 years. Peres was elected to the Knesset in November 1959 and, except for a three-month-long hiatus in early 2006, served continuously until 2007, when he became President. Read more in YWN.

  1. I will pray for the repose of the soul of Shimon Peres. I will also pray for his loved ones. I pray for the people of Israel as they mourn their loss. Rest in peace, Mr. President.
