[VIDEO & PHOTOS BELOW] A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured this afternoon in Lakewood by a vehicle being driven by a County Sheriff’s officer, officials say.
The accident occurred on New Hampshire Ave shortly before 2 PM.
Sources tell TLS the 16-year-old pedestrian was walking along New Hampshire Avenue on her way to work.
The patient was transported to JSUMC with serious injuries.
The Sheriff’s Officer – who witnesses say appeared shaken up – was also transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Part of New Hampshire Avenue is shut northbound at Locust Street for the investigation.

What intersection?
Why lately has there been so many accidents on new Hampshire avenue? Any idea
No sidewalks
Very quick highway
Many other reasons
Perhaps time to lower the speed limit
To shlomo lower speed limit ? Maybe can pedestrian traffic ? Vehicles also need space . Higher speeds are needed for people to be able to move somewhat in the traffic nightmare called lakewood ? Before you suggest solutions first let’s find out who’s fault this was
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
No sidewalks is a start- for their to be any pedestrian traffic on a highway, sidewalks is really a must.
This has nothing to do with speed limits. It’s new Hampshire and Locust. We need more sidewalks and we need to be careful while driving. We’re all too distracted that we can’t just sit and drive. Pay attention to the road in front of you. Don’t do anything else. Your car is a dangerous piece of equipment if not handled correctly.
That poor girl. There’s no sidewalks there and barely even a shoulder. My prayers go out to her for a full and speedy recovery.
May she have a speedy recovery.
This happened at the very edge of Lakewood and TR. Folks going and comin from TR need to slow down. Aggressive drivers fly through our town and then have the chutzpah to blame Lakewood. Get a life and slow down.
There is a sidewalk on the south side
Its called bashert
I absolutely agree with the last comment. Not only is this not to blame the lakewood community, but as a matter fact it was a police officer. There are many times when you see police officers on their phones and they DO have permission to talk on their phones while they’re driving. However that does not give them the right to do things that are reckless and put other people in danger . Now, I am not saying that this officer was driving reckless, I am just saying that many times we see officers driving and reckless way. I also want to mention how many times we see police man putting on their lights just to get ahead of somebody or make it through a red light and then turning off the lights and continuing on their merry way. I do salute the police officers and blue lives matter but in that vain ,every life matters. made the victim have a speedy recovery
may they all get better soon
Walking is a way of life here in Lakewood. Sidewalks need to be as common as roads
I hope the teen has a speedy recovery. Please update us.
