Today, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement on the passing of former Israeli President Shimon Peres.
“Shimon Peres was a pioneer, a founding father, a statesman, and a beloved leader to the people of Israel. More than any title he has held, he was a man of remarkable decency who dedicated himself to bringing people together, finding common ground, and working towards both security and peace for Israel and its neighbors.
“I will always treasure my last visit with Mr. Peres, just a month ago in Israel, when he moved me with his words about his late wife Sonya, his hopes for his nation and the region, and his dreams for humanity. My heart is heavy, and my condolences and prayers are with his family, the people of Israel, and those around the world whom he has touched.”
