  1. Why don’t they just skip the whole thing give each School money based on percentage of students and let the school’s work out busing on their own, this way they will make sure every kid is covered.

  2. So now they are willing to combine routes and make less stops. There will also be more mandated and non mandated children who do not have busing.

I wonder if this system would have even been necessary if they had made the same concessions under the old system.

I also don’t understand the claim that non mandated students would have cost over $700 per student when the average student only cost $640 last year. By definition, non-mandated students live closer to the school and their cost would be less then the average.

There was a lot of political capital spent to get this passed. I really hope the end result is better than what existed previously.

  3. George #2 has a point. If the schools were given the funds directly there would be savings on administrative costs, and the “smaller and medium” schools would not have to wait for the “limited” buses to be used up by the bigger schools before bidding their routes.

  4. Just want to know if the courtesy public school kids will also be forced to pay the $150?
It seems to me that all the courtesy Lakewood public school kids will get their busses paid for in full by the township budget (as per the agreement with the state), while the nonpublic courtesy students will have pay $150 per each child. To me that is not fair, especially to home owners that are already paying very high taxes. Why should their tax money that goes to the township, go to pay for “nonmandatory” courtesy bussing for public school students, but not for courtesy bussing for their own kids?

  5. last yr. my mandated daughter’s route was not picked up and we carpooled the whole yr thru. Why shld the bus companies pick up her route this yr. if the bus company did not feel in was profitable last yr.? The distances did not change. Do the same parents and students need to suffer again?!????!!!!

  6. State law says that if the routes are not picked up,all you are entitled to is 884. You can’t ask the bus companies to pick up an unprofitable route. The bus company is a business to make money. If you are a public school kid ,they have to bus you at any cost, but non public you are only entitled to the 884. This has nothing to do with suffering.the state won’t pay more than 884 and the bus company won’t pick you up for less. So exactly who do you want to solve your problem.

  7. How exactly do they calculate the 2 miles? I live 2.2 miles away according to all Google, waze ect and yet I still needed to pay the 150 dollars!!!!

  8. Well this sure didn’t work as promised. Where are those big savings that this consortium was supposed to achieve? The avg cost per public school administered busing last year was $625 per pupil. Why is the consortium costing $700 per pupil when making cost savings measures they would never concede to the public school district. Why aren’t courtesy students less than mandated students as claimed over and over again? Also, under student transportation law, parents cannot be charged anything if they meet the financial hardship standard of free or reduced lunch based on Federal income scale.

  9. Does Bais faiga have busing?

wow … sounds like I will have to pick up at 4 different schools on Wednesday all at the same time! How is this possible??

  10. Great! So I am “mandated bussing” because I live far but now that non mandated kids will be using the bussing my route once again won’t be picked up because the vendor won’t find it profitable. Do I get my aid in lieu at least or will that go towards all the other kids Using the bus instead of me?

  11. TLS, when there is a public service announcement such as this, please transcribe the video and audio clip.
It’s ok when I don’t see the entertainment videos, I can live without that, but this is important news. Viewers with filters need this info too.
I would imagine there is a software that will do it for you.

  12. to Frank:
being that the LSTA is now in charge, they should create bidding route packages that include profitable and not as profitable routes. this will force all the routes to be taken. If the bus company still doesn’t feel its profitable they of course have the right not to take any routes. Ultimately the routes will be taken and the bus company may not just make as much $$$ as they predicted.
