TLS EXCLUSIVE: HASHGACHA: Man saved from Hoboken Train Disaster 15 Years after being saved from 9/11 Attacks

train-ticket-moshe-tlsWe don’t always get to witness the Yad Hashem clearly, but a man is alive today to tell of the clear Yad Hashem which saved him from injury or death – twice.

The story is a enough to send a chill through every spine getting ready to stand in front of the king on the day of judgment- Rosh Hashana.

By now, all have heard about the disaster that occurred yesterday in Hoboken, which left a woman dead, and over 100 people injured.

What we don’t know, is how many people were supposed to be on that train – and could have been injured or killed – but were saved by the Yad Hashem – one way or another.

One of those people, is a Frum out-of-town man who works all week in the tri-state area, and takes the train to Hoboken each morning.

The man, Moshe Baruch, the father-in-law of a Lakewood resident Vromie M. (married to his daughter Sara), relates exclusively to TLS how he takes the train each morning from the Monsey, NY area to Hoboken en route to Manhattan, but yesterday was different.

Because it was Thursday and a day of Slichos, Moshe decided to get onto an earlier train to Secaucus.

Moshe boarded the train at Nanuet at 6:27 a.m. and arrived in Secaucus at 9:12 a.m. Attached is a photo of his ticket.

“I was already in the city when I got a call – did you hear?” Moshe related. “You didn’t hear? A train crashed into the station and over 100 people were injured,” the caller told him. Moshe realized he had just been saved.

What’s even more frightening, is the fact that Moshe always makes sure to sit in the front train.

“There’s no Shailah of a doubt I would have been in the first car,” Moshe says. “I have a lot of appreciation to the Ribono Shel Olam.”

But that’s not it.

In fact, 15 years ago, Moshe had also escaped disaster – the 9/11 attacks.

Moshe goes on to relate how he worked as an IT consultant, and for about a year before 9/11, he was contracted by a large firm in the World Trade Center.

“I worked in Tower One of the towers,” Moshe said, but that was up until about a month before the attacks, when his contract was up.

“I was initially disappointed,” Moshe recounts, but it all became clear to him just weeks later.

“I was on the 95th floor,” Moshe said. “Floor 90 was hit, and I know for certain I would have been there at 8 a.m.”

Over 200 people from the firm – including Moshe’s partner – were never heard from again.

Yesterday, 15 years later, Moshe had experience the same Yad Hashem.

We don’t understand why, and cannot begin to understand the calculations of Hashem, but we also believe in Hashgacha Pratis, and Moshe’s steps were guided from much earlier – perhaps even just from 5:30 a.m. the very same day.

Moshe’s wife Pearl, and daughter Bassie, both work in the same place, and for some reason yesterday they couldn’t sleep properly and were both up about 5:30 a.m. So Bassie decided at about 6:30 a.m. to Daven Shachris.

“My daughter told me that each day she asks for various things during Davening, but yesterday, for whatever reason, she said “today I just want to Daven that my family should be safe,” Moshe related. “We don’t know how to read these things, but especially so right before Rosh Hashana,” when each of our steps throughout the year are pre-planned.

“Hashem does so many miracles that we don’t even realize…we’re here for a purpose, and Hashem keeps us here for a purpose.”

The incident reminded Moshe of a true story he heard from Rebbetzin Weinberg many years ago.

A scaffold worker working about 10 stories up had fallen, heading straight for a fatal fall. Miraculously, there was a dumpster underneath which contained mattresses, and this worker fell straight into this doomster, and his life was spared. After crawling out of the dumpster, the man declared that this was a day to celebrate, and decided with his coworkers to walk across the street to party at a joint.

While crossing the road, this worker was struck by a bus, and killed instantly.

“It’s as if Hashem was telling this man, this is what I saved you for, to go and party?” Moshe said.

“We need to show Hashem we’re returning the favor, by living up to His expectation and living the right way.”

Moshe doesn’t consider himself a Tzadik, but he says perhaps it’s something he does which may have served as Zechus, and brought upon favorable judgment from above.

“I’m not a Tzadik,” Moshe says, “but I’ll share with you one thing I do.” And he shared with us a custom he has.

Each night before he goes to sleep, he goes through his days’ events, and no matter what happened that day, he makes sure in his heart to forgive every person who may slighted him.

“It was especially hard this week because of things going on in the office,” he said. “It was a big Nisayon.” But he did it anyway.

As is brought down in Seforim, being Mavir Al Midosov is a powerful trait, one which has the capability to rip up decrees against a person.

“I don’t know, but perhaps in Shomayim they said, look, he forgives others, he should be forgiven too.”

Moshe continued, “We don’t know how these things are calculated, but who knows what the power of forgiving people is – especially during this time of year, it can turn things into a Bracha.”

Before Yom Ha’din, we reflect, but also commit.

“This Yom Ha’din, says Moshe, let’s show Hashem we’re grateful for everything he constantly does for us – even without knowing – and show him that we appreciate him for ‘renewing our contract’ in the coming year.”
