busing-traffic-county-line-tlsSeveral thousand children from the approximately 30,000 are still without busing in Lakewood.

LSTA Director Avraham Krawiec provided the following update:

1- Reporting in from the initial negotiation/ collaboration session with the vendors – 28 routes were picked up to start sometime after Rosh Hashana.

2- Almost all night runs for Mesivtas were picked up, and they are to start after Rosh Hashana as well.

4- We are still at it…. working to get as many children as possible on buses in the shortest amount of time.

  1. this is getting really bad. we are 3 weeks into the school year already & still stuck in daily school traffic.

We all appreciate the hard work being done to get these routes under control BUT WHY WASN’T THIS ALL DONE DURING THE SUMMER BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTED?

  2. Whats going on with the 4:45 buses, you say there are schools trying to change their schedule because there are lots of buses available at that time, however my childs school always gets out at that time and have zero buses. What is going on? the school says they keep saying they want that time and in return keep getting another excuse of some sort. Something doesnt make sense here.

  3. They have beem saying for weeks that the legislation that allowed for the LSTA to be created and dispurse transportation funding only passed a few (3?) weeks before school started. There was no time. They cannot do in weeks something that the board of ed couldn’t do in months

  4. Can someone explain to the schools that children should not be punished or given detention if they are late. Where is the common sense of these schools. You have a busing crisis and traffic and the children are punished. No sechel at all

  5. @dovid
Where have u been????? THE BILL WAS ONLY PASSED AT THE END OF THE SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!
That being said it was done fairly with the ppl driving being the farthest away from the school. Sitting in traffic for hrs on end. While ppl living close by have bussing from day one!! Sick of carpooling 🙁

  6. Also for all those requesting aid in leu. I know it sounds exciting to get money back and however much it is we are entitled to it. But it comes out very little per child!!!!

  7. Dovid:

They only were able to start putting routes and bidding once the law was passed that allowed a group to be in charge of bussing. The law was passed very late.

  8. There is a real crisis out there. There is not enough drivers or there. Also the public school went and bought there own buses with our tax money and they don’t want they should be used for is also

  9. I have two questions:
    1. Is there a way that we can sue for renumeration of the bill being past very late? I loose money everyday that I carpool.
    2. If our dollars paid for the public school busing and they finish the day earlier than us, why dont we have access to those buses? At least all the pm routes can be taken filled.
    Forgive me,
    An exhausted…

  10. I have also lost lots of money by spending hours on the ride driving the kids to school. I wonder if the governor is aware that by signing this bill many of us mandatory busing lost busing. I would also like to find out if there’s a way I can sue for all the money I lost. the aid in lieu barely covers half the cost.

  11. my son had busing home the 1st week of school. Now for the past 2 weeks there has been no busing. What is going on I have emailed the LSTA numerous times with no responds.

  12. Even though the bill was passed and signed so close to the school year, I believe with more foresight and planning, a lot of the work would have been done before it was signed.

  13. To add insult to injury all the drivers that left the bussing companies and went to the public schools are getting union benefits and it is costing us the tax payers 3 MILLION more dollars this year over last year. And we are not allowed to God forbid get use of those buses

  14. There should be compensation. My son is the only one in my neighborhood so I drive him myself every day across town. It takes me a full hour no exaggeration to get him there and get to work. I fill up gas these days way more then normal. Do we get some reimbursement for this.???

  15. So we have no bussing for 3 weeks and no end in sight the least we can do is get aid in lieu of transportation to make up for $ we lose from our jobs. Anyone know how to go about getting aid in lieu??

  16. FYI as a parent YOU are responsible to take care of your child and get them to and from school. It was very convenient to place the responsibility on buses until now, but in truth it is our responsibility as parents. So as we drive let us remember this is our duty as parents, and this is what Hashem wants from us. This is our part in taking care of our children. And yes i too do not have busing for all my children

  17. I don’t understand why no response to these comments, right here on the scoop. Why not take advantage of the opportunity for an intelligent exchange of ideas? People are frustrated

  18. @A Parent – Thank you! Be’h our family will get busing but I’ve already resigned ourselves it is what it is for the possibility we don’t. At first it was major frustration and is challenging. It’s not a tragedy or pain & suffering. Just accept what we have.

  19. @A Parent we know we are responsible for our children. Which is why we pay taxes. Taxes are supposed to cover education for our children. Since we chose to send to private schools one of the only parts of our taxes that we benefit from is bussing. So we are doing our part already and now that we are driving we have been doing double. Paying and driving!!!

  20. to comment 23 Yes it is our responsibility to take care of our children however at this rate with parents taking and or picking up their kids we are loosing money every day that we are late for work and if we have to pick our kids up too, we have to leave work early and have less wages at the end of the week.
