Hi, I was driving (December 6, at about 4 pm) west on James Street (towards the co-op). A black Honda Accord made a left onto James from Williams. A silver jeep headed east (towards the 9) stopped to allow him to make the left because of the grid lock in that direction.
The car failed to look right before coming into my lane, putting me in a position where I nearly crashed into him. I moved to the side and skidded into the pole.
I am hoping that the driver could contact me directly or through the Scoop. My number is 917-600-6501.
Next time don’t try to avoid! I learned it the hard way!

It’s amazing how someone can cause an accident that takes down a utility pole on a rainy day and cause probably the worst gridlock that Lakewood has ever seen…and then…just drive off!!!
Just as a side note, I believe that the Police work revolving around that scene was abominable. It showed how sometimesbLaw enforcement could be about of touch. Yes, LPD blocked off James street at Route 9 closing off traffic on James. This caused MASSIVE backups on James, Pine, Route 9 North and South, Williams, Prospect, Cross and more. There was NOT ONE Police officer at ANY of these intersections to help move the flow of traffic. It took almost an hour to get down a street. Just a total lack of understanding of our traffic nightmare in this town.

Better to avoid if you can avoid the accident altogether. Also better to avoid if you feel you can spare yourself or another from injury. Otherwise I agree with you.
Another side lesson to take away from this story is that sometimes, in driving situations, being nice can be inconvenient at best and dangerous at worst. The jeep was trying to be nice and let the Accord go, but that caused the Accord to move and not look carefully at where he was going. I’ve seen situations like this before. Usually, it’s better not to be nice and to continue driving in the usual traffic pattern, which is what everyone expects, instead of being nice and causing an unexpected, dangerous situation.
Is it possible the driver didnt realize what he/she caused because he/she already drove by.
Everyone needs to slow down in this town. Everyone is in a constant rush. You are operating a vehicle you are responsible for your actions. Your fault end of story. Be happy no one was killed or hurt badly. The only thing you care about is the traffic caused.
