Former Fire Commissioner Larry Loigman among 5 running in this year’s Fire Commissioner elections

loigman votingFormer Fire Commissioner Larry Loigman, is among five who have filed to run in this year’s Fire Commissioner elections.

Running this year, are Avi Lieber, Aron Shain, Moshe Zeines, Larry Loigman and Denise Gregory.

They are vying for two seats on the board vacated by Commissioners Portnoy and Bradford, who are not running for reelection.

Loigman was Lakewood’s first frum fire commissioner.

“Since leaving the Board in 2015, I have followed the activities of the Fire District with increasing concern,” Loigman said. He noted that “the ranks of active volunteers have not increased, and taxpayer funds are being spent for frills, such as parties and picnics, rather than on essentials. The Board is now so disorganized that they still have not approved this year’s budget, but the proposed budget contains a tax increase as well as various accounting tricks. However, fire protection still won’t be as good as it was, because of the frivolous spending.”

Loigman said he was “encouraged to run by both volunteer and career firefighters, who are troubled by the threat to public safety.”

“They would like me to put things back on the right path, for the sake of the community,” he said. “And I will do whatever I can to accomplish that. ”

Elections will be taking place on February 18.

  1. The Lakewood Fire Department is good right now but I believe it has the potential to become great. If you agree with me then vote for me, Moshe Zeines, for Board of Fire Commissioners on Motzei Shabbos February 18.

  2. Here is a suggestion for those running for Fire Commissioner this year.
In addition to campaigning and advertising to the general public, please reach out to the firefighters themselves, both career and volunteer. Talk to us and take the time to hear our concerns and needs within the department and get to know us and how we do things. Then let us know how you plan to support us in our mission to serve the public. Initiating a show of concern and genuine interest toward those actually on the front lines will go a long way toward building a productive relationship between the Commissioners and the Department. In the past, we have felt somewhat ignored and taken for granted. While we understand the need for an optimally functional and transparent Board that works for the good of the entire population, at the same time, please don’t forget those who are dedicating personal time and more toward serving the citizens of Lakewood.
To the public, contrary to popular belief, we firefighters are not politically minded and only wish to serve the needs of the public to the best of our ability and to do so in an efficient and as safe a manner as possible. Whomever you choose to support for commissioner, do so with an understanding that this will have a direct effect on how we can serve you best. A public that supports the members of its Fire Department regardless of internal politics that are beyond their control is a public that appreciates the commitment and dedication to this town.
Thank you to those who have and continue to support us. Your appreciation is gratifying.

  3. Hey Larry, when you run this time don’t lie about the Firefighters like you did the last time! It may be just politics to you but it is personal to them.

  4. JBW:
Can you give us a few pointers as to what are your concerns as a fire fighter? this way we can make a better and inofrmed decision who to support

  5. Mr Loigman! Did you not run a campaign a few years ago stating you could bring 100 volunteers to the LFD? That never happened because that was a promise you couldn’t possibly keep!

You stated the Fire District was hiding money and what were your findings? A SURPLUS…which you forced the Board to use to fool taxpayers into thinking you saved them money! What you did was a major financial disaster!
You ignored and berated volunteer firefighters including keeping your back to them when they spoke at public portion of the meetings!

You stated more than once that you are only concerned with your constituents and not concerned with what the volunteer firefighters felt!

Now you have stated that the Lakewood Fire Department are unable to effectively fight fire without mutual aid from other towns!! I can’t wait for you and the voters to see the truth of your false claims! Your continued derogatory remarks are poison to the Lakewood Fire Department!
The facts are that Commissioners Meir Cohen and David Mizrahi have given a revitalization to the Lakewood Fire Department! FACT! Membership is up over 25% since you were voted out! Training has more than doubled within the last 3 years due in part of the respect and latitude given to the Fire Chiefs from said commissioners! Overall morale within the Department is higher than it was alittle over 3 years ago!

If anyone who is running for Fire Commissioner would like to speak to the Fire Department they should contact the Fire Chief and make arrangements to meet and have dialogue that would be beneficial not damaging!
To all the voters of Lakewood Township- Let’s keep moving forward and not go back to the foolish political rhetoric spewed by someone who wants “power” not progress and prosperity!
