FIRST REPORT: Avi Lieber wins Fire Commissioner Election, second seat too close to call; Results

Avi Lieber was voted in as a Fire Commissioner, but the second seat was too close to call.  

In order of highest to lowest – as of now:

Avi Lieber received 430 votes.

Denise Gregory received 383 votes.

Larry Loigman received 382 votes.

Aharon Shain received 284 votes.

Moshe Zeines received 127 votes.

However, there are 6 provisional ballots, as well as six questionable ballots which won’t be decided until Tuesday.

The budget: 364 votes YES, 453 voted NO.

Special question: 528 voted YES, 269 voted NO.

  1. Avi Lieberman is a great guy and I’m confident he’ll do a great job as commissioner. I’m glad he won. I’m also glad almost 1000 ppl came out to vote. That’s a nice turnout for a Motzei Shabbat that ended not-so-early.

  2. My thanks to those who showed their concern for the community by voting, either in person or by mail. I look forward to the results being verified by the Board of Elections, although a recount may be required because the numbers are so close.
    I would strongly urge the current Board, and the other candidates, to agree that the vacant, unexpired term be filled by appointment of whichever candidate comes in “third.” That would clearly be in keeping with the will of those who voted.
