UPDATE 3:50 PM: Police released the following information.

At approximately 12:50 this afternoon Officers responded to the area of Ridge Avenue and E. Countyline Rd after receiving reports of a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, Sgt. Eric Miick and Officers Mike Ruiz and Steven Meyer learned that a male, later identified as 23 year old Terick DeBose of Toms River, had struck a parked vehicle in the parking lot of Pinter Elementary School. DeBose who was operating a blue Toyota Camry attempted to flee the scene when a 19 year old bystander tried to signal him to stop.

DeBose, briefly stopped but then stepped on the accelerator and advanced directly towards the 19 year old man. The man lunged forward, so as not to be run over and was able to grab onto the hood of the car. As a result he sustained a minor injury to his knee.

DeBose continued his flight and began traveling at an estimated 40+ miles per hour, west on E. Countyline Road with the victim still holding on.

Approximately a quarter of a mile down the road the 19 year old asked DeBose to please pull over so he could get off the car. DeBose pulled over in front of Calvary Academy School, let the victim off and then continued west.

Officer Stephen Nickens, who was responding as backup, observered the Camry as it neared Brook Rd. Upon approaching the intersection, DeBose drove over a curb to avoid traffic that was backed up at the traffic light.

He continued north on Brook Road and was ultimately stopped and arrested by Officer Nickens. It was determined at the stop that DeBose had an several outstanding warrants for his arrest as well as a suspended drivers license.

Further assistance from Det. Oscar Valmon resulted in charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury with a Suspended License as well as a host of motor vehicle summons.
